Hi, I'm going to have a really rough time if my TF on bombardment missions don't hit the airfield at Noumea. (at least damage a few ac now and then)
In order to isolate the Allied force I need to close the airfield and port. (so reinforcements take longer to unload)
Revised intel suggests that New Calodonia has a NZ Div and Bde.

Last man standing

Post by mogami »

Hi, It's going to hurt. Last man standing wins. I'll record the score now and we can compare it after Noumea falls and see who won. If you score more then me then you win

I want all the ships and aircraft and LCU you lose defending it. So we won't use the score for the base(s) in deciding.

If there is no Allied offensive in 1942 or 1943 then I have done what I set out to do.
If there are no Allied heavy bombers in range of Japan in 1944 then I have done what I set out to do.
The whole war is being fought just so that in Mar 1946 when time expires the Rising Sun is still flying over Tokyo.

Actually I don't agree on those terms. I can replace material, you cannot. If you score more than twice the points I do, you win. If we score equal points, I'll consider it a great victory.

Either way I never wanted a fight over Noumea. The only reason I'm defending it was that I looked at the historical Japanese progress and made it my line of defense. Now that you've decided to take it, I don't have much choice but to fight.

If I were Japan I'd be more worried about Java, but I could be wrong. Will be interesting to see what the situation will be one month from now.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 04/16/42

Although I don't show sub combat, I'm starting to lose a few now. In the beginning they did more damage than they received, but that's changed.

Overall I'm happy but the daytime surface combat against a bombardment fleet where the Allies were surprised? And turn sequence benefiting Japan again...

Noumea will be this game's Gualdalcanal. I wonder if Mogami realizes this yet? Either way he has /undisclosed amount of time/ to either win or pull back. I cancelled a major operation elsewhere in the Pacific and all those forces will be descending upon Noumea.

Java? I give it 3 months, and after that Japan will never take Java. Of course, there's nothing there right now but the Dutch so if he makes the effort he should be able to take it.

I'm positive I saw the Ise sink, but she doesn't show up on the list. Either way she is out of the war.

Hi, Ise is not sunk yet. But then she is not safe yet. (Still burning and still out of port)

Death of the Ise

Post by mogami »

Hi, Well after over 2 years of playing I still make newbie errors.
BB Ise was hit by a torpedo. During my orders phase she was escorted by a DD and I assigned a fighter Daitai to fly CAP over her while she limped back to port.
The following day she was attacked and no CAP!!!
What happened was during the night she fell behind her escort and formed a new TF. The DD took the CAP and went home.
A simple few seconds to change her mission to Escort would have prevented this. She still might have been attacked but she would have had CAP. She took 3 more torpedos and sank at the end of the turn. It would not be so bad except I've done this very same thing before. (I assigned a surface TF to follow a transport TF and then combined the transport TF with another. So of course the surface TF had nothing to follow and the transports sailed into an ambush with no protection-but thats another time and place......

Ise sinks, but so does the remains of the Allied surface fleet covering Noumea. Only the air force is left to try to keep the Japanese fleet from landing more troops. Operation Bloody Nose is still... let's say 2 weeks away. Noumea should be able to hold until then.

A Japanese CV force is headed for Fiji... what will it find? Watch this space. [:)]
