Ghost air group remenets

Post by Nomad »

I think there is a way to get rid of these but I can not remember how.

I have some ghost air groups that are listed as remenets, 1/VF2 etc. They are the ones with no aircraft and the A-20 picture.

Anyone remember how to get rid of them? I tried putting one on the Long Island and sending LI back to PH but the ghost was back on Enterprise the next turn. I tried putting one on one of the other empty CVEs and keeping them in port and it returned. I tried putting one on an empty CVE and putting them both in different hexs south of Nouema. Even with a 0 range the ghost moved back to Enterprise.

The biggest problem is that the Fighter groups will list as max size of 24 and reduce themselves back to 24 flyable aircraft.

I think, if I remember correctly, this is a self correcting problem and it will clear up after a couple of days, atleast it has for me.

Not self correcting, the Big E has been sitting in Nouema for three weeks with a ghost squadron on it.

I am having the same problem, and it is not self-correcting over time. I transferred some SBD squadrons to shore after suffering minor damage to one of my carriers (Secn 17, early May). I decided to transfer them back, but some of the aircraft were unserviceable when I did so, and remained behind. Suddenly, the famous "Phantom A-20 Squadron" with no aircraft started showing up on my carriers. It has prevented me from returning the remaining aircraft of the squadrons. Frustrating!

I may be wrong about how long it takes to disappear, but if I recall, when I sent the carrier out to sea or to another port the ghosts vanished. The ones I have problems with is when my B-25D and B-26 squadrons split and upgrade to B-25Js and I have more Js then pilots and it takes forever to complete the upgrade.

Also, has anybody noticed there are two VF-17 squadrons in one of the long scenerios (17, I think)? I was playing one before my computer crashed and had a land based VF-17 flying F4Us and then on one of the late arrival CVs was another VF-17 flying F6Fs.

I might have found a solution. I moved an empty CVE as far south of Nouema as possible and then moved my infected CVs to the same hex. Then I transfered the ghosts to the CVE and returned the CVs back to Nouema. So far it seems to be working. I know more in a few more turns.

Does any one have a save just before the ghost is created and creates the ghost when the turn is ended that they could send me?

Sorry Kid, I didn't see this. My solution above did not work. I will go back and see, it is a PBEM game, I'll look to see.

Kid, I do have it becasue I have every turn of this game saved in my inbox. It will take me a day or two to find it.

Found and sent Kid. Interestingly, the problem does not first appear on the map, but when the CV is at Pearl Horbor.

I got rid of a ghost sqdrn on the Wasp by transferring it to a CVE (Suwanee) that was also in Noumea. I had previously transferred the Suwanees squadrons ashore. The next turn the ghost was gone. Don't have a clue why it worked or if it'll work reliably or again.
