British Vs German 1943

Post by RobW »

Game setup by RolandRahn (Ger) vs my British. Usual restrictions on air, arty and infiltrators.... visibility of 4 (night time)

German first turn - they lost a Kubelwagen and some recon was forced to withdraw...

British First Turn

Advanced recon units identify a number of German elements but are not supported well enough to do anything but smoke close by and report in...

nothing much else happens......

It's August 1944, Meeting engagement 3000 pts each side, no pre-laid mines, no air, max. 10% pts for artillery, max 2 Infiltrators.

Some minor skirmishes resulting in 2 UK APCs and a jeep lost....

I fear what happens when your main force hits my lines [X(].

My mortar fire should have hit the advncing UK troops, but is guessed wrong...
When I stormed the target area with motorcycles, I saw two undisrupted Crocodiles just outside my shelling area.
In desperate assaults, one crocodile was destroyed and one immobilized, but at the cost that my troops are now exposed to the enemy...
Otherwise, two haltracks destroyed and some recon elements driven back.

Turn 3...

My remaining Crocodile manages to slow down 3 m/c recon units - not sure I will get another turn out of this.... all across my front I see infantry supported by armour - how many Panthers/Tigers will I have to take out.. I have counted at least 3 Panthers and 2 tigers so far...

Oh yes - an Cavalry - don't you just love how pretty they look galloping across the fields!

First an ugly thing:
The game crashed after saving. I had to replay the turn and tried to make exactly the same moves as in the first attempt.
The losses in the original turn where the same - your Crocodile vs. no Panther.
Only difference is that in the original turn, two Panthers killed the Crocodile - one Panther accessing from one direction, your Crocodile shooting and missing, then another Panther from the other direction placing the kill.
In the second play, your Crocodile didn't fire, my Panther shoot and destroyed it so you see only one Panther while in the original turn you would have seen two.
I tried to place the forces as they where in the original turn - you will note when advancing that a trrop concentration was sitting where your 105mm arty rained down (as in the original turn).

Otherwise:
My Cats wants me to thank you for dinner - the Crocodile was excellent...

But where is your main body?

Roland

PS: Are you sure about numbers and types of my cats?

not to worry about the game crashing - and thanks for your honesty.....

Ahhhh infiltrators in the rear - nasty... lets hope I can muster something to counter them....

This turn they are the ONLY unit I see. Its edging closer to a German push all along my line. I need to reassess my locations as I feel I will NOT win a standing battle (but who knows). I now know how I would redo my purchase and deploy but 20-20 hindsight is great!!!!

The end of the turn saw an artillery duel... I think both sides suffered some losses under the falling steel

I made a slow advance in the north into the area that was just shelled by my 120mm mortars...
1 Sherman and some scattered infantry have become cat-fodder.

BRITISH ADVANCE IN THE SOUTH!
Several APCs have slipped on the southern edge of the map into my rear areas!
This can be a *very* big problem...

Your HQ unit has an APC....
....and a pre-defined artillery fire mission just one hex away [8D].

Halftracks in the south force 2 m/c units to disperes, and only a desperate rearguard action manages to disperse the spec ops unit on my rear.I am hoping the incursion in the south will cause the Germaans to react to me - the north needs to be alleviated some how.....

I play currently hide-and-seek with the haltracks in the south....
In the north, the day - err, turn - was saved for you by a single Sherman V who withstood the beatings frtom two Panthers at 100 yards range and several infantry assults.

Sherman brews up under onslaught from Panthers. The southern outflanking maneouver seems to have ground to a halt... but I am sure there are more Germans around than what I can see.......

One Sherman killed.
A Panther finished an halftrack in the south.
Apart from that, nothing worth mentioning....

Destroyed 2 Halftracks with infantry/motorcycle assualts. In my backyard, I crushed an SAS team with a Panther and detected a halftrack approching my VH's....

RobW,

You could have done with some Lynx Attack Choppers and a smattering of Challenger 2's!
... "'Broadsword', stop shagging around and get on with the mission!"
