If Karachi were to fall under the Japanese slipper...
Can't recall what happens to British reinforcements, supply, and withdrawl requirements if Karachi is taken from Britsh. Anyone?
Not that it's gonna happen...[8D] Freeboy has left DEI alone and is rampaging the East coast India. Trincomalee fell under massive pressure.

If Karachi is controlled by Japan, British and Indian reinfs will arrive in Bombay. If both are controlled, reinfs are delayed until one or the other is recaptured.

That just seems silly to me. "Youve lost Bombay and Karachi? Well, we're not gonna reinforce you until you take them back with what you have. And remember, you brought this on yourself." There must be zillions of other points of access for shipping from the ETO and the MEd.
As long as I'm on this subject, it makes me wanna resurrect that old issue about adding a Panama Canal hex. That would make the game so much more realistic.

I suppose you could answer "Well, don't lose Karachi and Bombay!"

But I'm afraid that's the problem with a map that has edges.

A common tendancy is for players to concentrate India's not inconsiderable LCU assets along or beyond the Burmese border.....leaving many juicy targets either ill defended or undefended.
I've been guilty myself. During a more distant PBEM test....i had pretty much left Ceylon, the RN's primary base of operations, undefended. My opponent could have walked in and taken the prize with just a couple SNLF units had he known.......

Well, I basically gave up Rangoon without a fight yet still managed to lose a few units because of the retreat paths issue. Singapore held out within a day of the historical surrender, so Mandalay was allowed to build forts. The SEAC Chinese units made it on time. I never over extend myself in Burma, it not the AI ya know. India ws well defended with decent units, but there were only so many to go around so a few bases were without garrisons. Ceylon had the 1st UK division, another Indiand division and some artillery. Sounds sufficient, right?

India in trade for the DEI doesn't sound like a smart move to me. India cant support the Japanese economy and it's loss wont bother the USN one bit.

I am in tears this may be the funniest Ronism ever...NOT WHEN JAPAN IGNORES THE DEI AND FALLS UPON INDIA WITH THE WHOLE ZIABATSU'S BUDGET FOR WESTERN SMUT
so anyone actually know?
And Nik we are talking a whole lot of points in dead Brits in Ceylon and lots for all those bases, pluse the supplies they carry over, and its not a lost cause in DEI, I control Borneo, and soon my reserve access units will be marching on Batavia, Palambange and a host of other targets, but I only have all my carriers, CA and bb to work with, and taking tricommalee was a bitch.. ever try attacking dug in well fed guys who think Tokeo rose is a new type of wine cooler?
The USN.. Ron has them hiding out to crush my nuts later.... I want to rid India and China of The nasty imperialist and transfer all those units capable to OZ!!!! ok, now that wont happen......

Trincomalee had 2/3rds of the 1st UK Div, an Indian Div, and a UK Field Arty unit. Quite heavy considering what's available (mid April 42 and Chandpur's loss to Japan demanded a commitment of more units to oust them. Not telling what awaits in Colombo.[;)]
Freeboy busted a nut in his efforts in Ceylon. He found a few holes on the Indian mainland by paradropping and coastal raids, following up with consolidation attempts if possible. Needless to say, he has sufferred fairly heavy losses in sunk and damaged shipping but a big pile of angry little nippers are screeching through the streets of Trincomalee as the defenders crawl back to Colombos fort 9 defences.
I love defending and this is why! Sometimes you succeed, sometimes not. Freeboy is providing me with quite a challenge in India. Gotta give him credit. In the long run however , my continued ownership of the DEI minus Borneo and the Celebes is gonna hurt Freeboy. If my subs fired more than once or twice a month, he might be in even bigger doodoo. Allied substandard doctrine sucks.[8D] WARNING TO PLAYERS: ALLIED SUB DOCTRINE DOES NOT REFLECT ALLIED SUB DOCTRINE AT ALL. IT EMULATES THE JAPANESE DOCTRINE OF IGNORING MERCHANT IN FAVOUR OF WARSHIPS WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY TRYING TO REFLECT OVER-CAUTIOUS ALLIED COMMANDERS AND PREWAR SONAR BLIND SONAR APPROACHES. RESULTS IN THE ALLIED SUBS NEVER FIRING!

so he's mainly attacking karachi and Bombay? He'll have to leave strong assets there to hold them. Ron has the advantage of interior lines and can move LCU's quickly

Nope, Madras, Yaman, Chandpur, Calcutta, Ceylon...basically the entire east coast. He just needed clarification on the advantages of attempting Karachi. He's dreaming if A) he thinks he can take Bombay and Karachi and B), that his forces in Ceylon and India are not going to be bled dry over time. Attrition scenario if ever there was one. A big friggin New Guinea with rail lines!

Wow, this is an eye opener. Freeboy's plan is what I have in mind. Only that why does it last this long? Did you use the Dec 7 Surprise to ship troops right to the east India coast, along with a CV dual to clear the path? I tested it, they have the range. Allias only have ENG and HQ at Trincomalee and Colombos. Should be easy right? This post is an eye opener because I don't know it'd be this bloody.
As for DEI, could use relatively tiny force to capture only the resourceful bases. There is no hurry to transport the goods, they'll build up. Right, put another CV dual there to freeze the Allias shipping, so they cannot steal. [:D]
I wish so much to know how India will become. Once Karachi and Bombday fall, is it possible to starve the allias that left in east India (Diamond Harbor, et.al.) and Burma? If it were me, I will garrison, but will not attack those left over troops. Let them starve.
The bulk of the southern army can then be used in OZ. I counted, there were at least 1500 assault strength in OZ. So you might need more than just the southern army alone.
Ron and freeboy, good post !

There are only two kinds of people that understand Marines: Marines and the enemy. Everyone else has a second-hand opinion.

Using the Dec 7 move bonus to invade Ceylon is cheesy to the extreme.. You think the Brits would allow an IJN INvasion TF packed full of troop ships move through the Malacca Straights without tailing them... If they headed to Ceylon they would have been attacked long before they got there... Hell, the Repulse and POW's TF would probably have trailed them through the straights...
Invading the DEI on dec 7 is one thing - nothing they could do to stop the move.. but invading India / Burma / Ceylon on Dec 7 is crazy.

Yes, this is the game he took over from me. He had about 8 free divisions and 3-5 brigades he could use for India. Malaya and the PI were secure. I had landed the 18th and the Imperial Guard in Chandpur.
My miscalculation was I saw 90,000 troops in Mandalay and forgot about all those lovely Chinese. I had figured that Ron would move his best troops down. Only to discover a Brit division and a bunch of others sitting in Dacca.

Took over in what march? David, aka 2ndACR did a great job of getting ionto India and taking Borneo and the Solomons intact save a few bases.. took a look aat the beginning ands said Holly handgranades Batman.. there is an India for ssale!! But can we afford it? So I mortgaged the attack on SRA, and move alot of air and sea assets to help wither the lba still Ron killed a number of ak/ap and damaged a few more. Tricomolee just fell and I have elements of tank and Infantry units marching on Hyperbad.. sp? and Madres.
