Farscape and Battlestar
So, who saw the last farscape show ever? I Thought it was awsome, great sendoff for such an awsome show!!
I think battlestar is gonna be a MAJOR hit, top notch production value, and great acting so far.

RE: Farscape and Battlestar
We pause this posting for the following rant:
I HATED the remake. I am a purist for the original. I will always be a believer in the continuation that could have been. The Desanto project would have brought many of the old cast back and have transitioned into a continuation show with new and old cast members. The reimaging was a travesty. The characters werent heroic (with maybe Olmos as Adama as the only bright spot in the whole thing) the special effects were okay but there were no huge space battles...No epic space battles where battlestars are being decimated. No feeling of remorse at the Colonies destruction that I felt in when watching the original..just one big black hole in my gut while watching it...
Some casual fans will say "dude its just a old scifi show why you get so upset over it"...When people argue this point with me all I have to say is what if some producer (ignoring the huge fan base that supported the continuation) decided to reimagine Star Wars or Babylon 5 using new actors and ideas instead of continuing those story ideas with the original cast willing to reprise their roles.... Didnt think sooooooo. I hope the new show bombs.
Just my 2cents....
Cant speak for farscape I havent been lucky enuf to catch them...Want to though... looks kinda like B5.
We now return you to DamoclesX regurely scheduled posting.....
BTW: New B5 project is supposedly in the works per JMS

RE: Farscape and Battlestar
I can totaly see your point,
I think there were no big battles cause it was total suprise, and they couldnt even fire back, I think there will be more on this later on.. when it actually starts to sink in, from what I can tell it went RIGHT from the openeing plot to this current ep, as in they have not slept since the first bombs started dropping.. I have been in a few situations where something really nasty happens, or goes down, and you are kept on the move and dont have time to actually THINK about it so it really does not effect you until you have a moment to sit down and rest.. then its like a ton of bricks..
as for the re-imaging, I never saw any eps of the first battlestarother then like 5 minutes here and there.. and no offence but it looked cheesy lol, but I can totaly understand, if they re-imaged b5 and made sheriden some stuipid super chick and raiped the story I would be pissed off to hell also lol
I wouldnt count on it bombing tho, if you look at it objectivly, its -awsome- and considering the thin wire scifi walks these days we need EVERY scifi show to suceed, no matter our personal opinions, less they become deemed usless and all axed in favor of most stupiid reality tv
if you have to .. grab farscape from the net, 4 seaons pluse a 4 hour movie/ender, its REALLY worth it, right up there with b5 for story, and farscape really goes the distance.

RE: Farscape and Battlestar
I was the biggest Battlestar Galactica critic. I kinda grew up with the original shows, and when they announced that cylons were going to look like humans, I went "Ewwwww....."
However, I then proceeded to watch pilot miniseries. And i was converted to their cause. Is the show perfect? Oh no certainly not. but I'll be damned if it's not one of the most breathtaking remakes of all SciFi time. No major spacebattles - are you kidding me? Ok so you don't get to see the major battle, which was over in a blink anyway. However, the space fight near the end of the miniseries is one of the most bad-ass, awesome fights I know. The characters - well I love them. They're by far more plausible than the chars of the original series. "Hey, our worlds just got wiped out. Let's just crash at this cool party here and get rid of our weapons, love and peace and all." - Yeah, right.
Oh and the new music is awesome. It's dark, fits the atmosphere, is melodic and rich, and of high quality. Anyone up for making a mod? [:D]

RE: Farscape and Battlestar
Well I guess we are all entitled to our opinions.
I notice the trend that people who werent really fans of the original galactica dont mind the changes in the new show and on the flip side the fans who did grow up with it generally can't stand the remake. On principle I dont like remakes...If you think of these series and movies that we like so much as works of art then it makes sense that remaking them simply cannot work...try and remake Star Wars...Lets remake Babylon 5...Lets remake Star Trek...Lets remake the Planet of The Apes movies...Lets remake Casablanca or Gone With The Wind...If you really are a fan of these series or movies you know that there is noway to remake them and recapture the magic that made them special. If you are a casual fan then you wont care about a remake because you never really got into what made it special in the first place.
What bugs me so much is that the continuation Galactica had a chance to be so much more than this remake...the Desanto production got shut down by 9-11 because transportation expenses shot up and they coundnt justify their expenses to the studio...check out www.battlestargalactica.com if you want the whole story. Most of the original cast was coming back plus there was to be younger cast added to make the connection to the younger generation. The story respected the past events and characters of the original yet was modernized to more adult and plausible. Of course the technology of the Cylons and Colonials were to be more impressive and developed..with some incredible special effects.
Sci-fi decided to abandon this idea when they purchased the rights for whatever reason.
In my heart I just cannot support this new production... All I want to get across to people and you Werewolf is not to expect the hardcore BSG fan base to jump up and down and sing this new shows praises because to us it is a sucker punch in the gut.
Finally as in my first post...the acid test is this...take your absolute favorite tv show or movie of all time...now have a studio decide remake it and change its elements and concepts all around and how does that make ya feel. [X(]

RE: Farscape and Battlestar
well.. I dunno.. maby its cause I"m older(26 lol) but I just dont get worked up anymore.. sure I would be pissed if they fcked b5.. but Id get over it, things change, somethimes they are good sometimes not
I"d give it a few seasons before writing it off.. hell I even gave earth final conflict half way through season 5 before I finally said fooooooooook this lol
I did notice the galactica had changed a -lot- I have not gotten a REALLY good look at it yet, it still has those RETARTED landing bays.. ya right... space fighters.. need a damn RUNWAY to land.. and not only that but they dont use wheels.. what kind of idiot lands a SPACE FIGHTER like a jet on a runway without wheels!??!?! there is so much stuipid about that its not even worth getting into, those fighters should be able to do a 180, quick burn and come to a stop nearly on a dim, not freaking crash down onto the deck... are we suppose to belive a smooth landingbay somehow slows down a fighter???
thats my only major grip.. that and the stuipid launch bays...... actually... I hate the wierd crap about all scifi shows.... in space.... ships dont need huge ass rear engines.. unless they have huge ass front engins.. cause how the hell do they slow down with any effeciency.

RE: Farscape and Battlestar
Im 39 and i guess I get worked up cause Im running out of time for them to redo it right before I die [:D]
And Im not totally against remakes...I did like the reimagining of the Beastmaster Tv show..I loved the first movie, would s**t on the 2nd if the dvd ever found its way in my home and kinda liked the third...but the tv show is pretty good especially with Marc Singer being on it too. Of course I would have prefered a continuation with MS as the dad...but oh well
Have you guys heard anything about the new B5 production?????

RE: Farscape and Battlestar
DamoclesX, the fighters in BSG can turn and stop on a dime. If you watched the pilot miniseries, you'll see Apollo come to a stop above an elevator pad inside the landing bay, turn 180 degrees and set down on it. I think the point of their so-called "combat landings" is to have all fighters on the ground of the bay ASAP. It may or may not be the best way to do things, but it's a Scifi series, not National Geographics
Heck, in that show they even shoot down nukes that don't stupidly go off when doing so. Did they take some liberties in portraying space battles? Sure, but then again, portraying a space battle is a fantasy in itself right now.
As for the project of the old cast to revive the series, yes that would've rocked even more. However, the actor of "Apollo" freaks me out - he started his own religious cult many years ago.

RE: Farscape and Battlestar
No really, he's running his own sect with himself as guru. Nethertheless, he was absolutely interested in making a Battlestar Galactica remake, and I've even seen design drawings of the proposed Battlestar bridge - which looked much more like the old series than what we see on TV now. All in all, they wanted to show everything in a more "epic" way than the current series does, where you basically have a keyhole-view of everything. However, don't forget that massive space battles and fancy special FX costs money, which is something almost no TV series really has. Well except Star Trek of course, but we all see what lots of money is good for if you have absolutely no story to tell...

RE: Farscape and Battlestar
After practically throwing stuff at my TV in disgust when Sci-Fi ended Farscape earlier this year, It was quite a surprise to me when I saw the ad for the "Peacekeeper Wars" mini-series (if 3 episodes constitute a mini-series). I, for one, being a die-hard Farscape fan who has never missed a single show from the onset, was so totally impressed with the way it ended that I frellin almost cried. Just the spectacle of Rygel carrying Aeryn and Crichton's child had me laughing so hard I almost shot milk through my nose.
A hearty Well-Done to the Henson/Kemper Team!!!
I'm sad to see it finally really over (R.I.P. D'argo), but Frellin-A!, what a send-off.
