How to get Allied troops into Burma

I am playing the AI in the long scenario and tried to move troops overland into Burma from India and China. But both sets of divisions got stuck in the jungle trails and are barely moving complaining about loss of supply?
Is there a better way of getting the Allied troops into Burma to stop the Japanese advance, and how do I get them over the jungle trails?

Do a strategic retreat to the Kohima-Ledo area. You won't be able to initially hold Rangoon or Mandalay so do what you can to just slow the Japanese down and then disengage to the Kohima-Ledo line and build up those bases.
