Is there any hope....

Frank Hunter's Campaigns on the Danube is an operational study of the campaigns along the Danube in 1805 and 1809. Campaigns on the Danube's system focuses on trying to present the player with the same sort of decisions placed on their historical counterparts; how to feed an army and move that army according to a plan, all the while trying to fight a campaign. There is also an option to allow players to play out the battles with miniatures and input the results.

Is there any hope....

I really enjoyed Campaigns on the Danube. It gave me fresh insights into Napoleon's Ulm campaign at the least (It wasn't a wheel, it was seizing the central position again!)

As much as I loved it though, there is a sense of emptiness in the limited replay value.

Is there any hope that instead of making another campaign, you can instead invest energies and resources into making a toolkit? Let the player communities make the maps, work out the OOBs, arrival times, supply points, troop qualities etc and Matrix concentrates on making a robust, flexible, beautiful game/toolkit. Use the energy, attention to detail, and thoroughness of the grognards to fuel continued enthusiam for the product.

P.S. if you are still planning patches for this, I'd very much like an option to print off the OOBs for battles to be resolved in miniature (including names of commanders and formations present)

I'd be happy to do a game kit thing instead of canned campaigns. However, that means people doing their own maps and I'd have to write a really generic AI. The AI could be done, with players helping it using an editor but that means using generic hexes or something.

I think the real interest in something like this is Pbem. I know I am rarely interested in playing the ai in any game. A map editor and oob editor would be awesome:)

If there's more interest in an editor where players could design their own campaigns and play them against a generic AI (or player-designer scripted) or PBEM than there is in games designed around a related pair of campaigns then I would certainly do it.
