Another day and more good news from the warfront for the Empire of Japan...

My sub-launched commandos have captured Sabang - northern tip of Sumatra.. They have begun to fortify the place and are awaiting some patrol float planes and some air lifted AV crews.

On the isle of Mindanao all enemy resistance has ended today with the fall of Davao. After a month of fighting throughout the second largest island in the Philippines, the small Naval Light Forces of the IJN have captured the last holdout of enemy troops... Over 5600 Philippino and American troops were killed or captured in the final onslaught... The troops on Mindano will recieve some much deserved rest before being redeployed elsewhere.

With the fall of Davao this leaves only a few bases left in the Philippines under enemy control - both Bataan and Manilla on Luzon are still allied held.. As are two smaller islands which intel reports are guarded by Philippino troops. Without supply for the past month these troops should be about starved and I will only need a small force to capture them. A couple NLFs or a Bde should be more than enough.

Another day of combat in Singapore leaves just over 800 IJA troops along with over 1500 allied troops dead and wounded. More attacks are planned and Singapore should fall soon as her defenders are exhausted...

An unknown allied force has landed on Andaman Island forcing the small IJN force there into hiding. The small TF was spotted yesterday heading south, but somehow avoided any air attack til this afternoon - after it had unloaded at least part of its load. Soliders of an unknown Bde (Don't remember the name.. But I'm pretty sure it was a Bde in size) stormed ashore losing nearly 200 men to coastal fire... In a suicide charge the allies captured the base. The TF then moved into port and began unloading even more men and supplies... A small force of Nells responded to the radio calls and attacked the TF reporting a single torp hitting a lone AK in the port. Hopefully tomorrow my naval bombers will be more successful.

My bombers from Rabaul were active again locating more allied ships near Port Moresby and putting two torps into an allied DD.. Reports indicate that the second torp broke the ship in half which than sank quickly...

Other than that nothing else has happened... My enlarged repair yards are repairing ships faster than I hoped and so far are keeping up with the demand for their services.. Many merchies have been shunted to the smaller yards to allow the more important warships access to the best repair facilities in the empire... Even the yards in Shanghai are being used to repair some merchies... At the current rate of repairs, all of the ships currently slated for repair will be repaired in less than 2 months - this would be great if it keeps up, but I doubt it... So far I only have 1 capital ship in the yards - a CV damaged during the last CV battle with Rob.... She is hurt pretty good, but should be ready for action sometime in April... The rest of my ships in repair are CLs and smaller... Not including a number of merchies...

Operation Peek-A-Boo has been given the green light and will be commencing shortly... Also, Operation Go For Broke has been authorized - although it is estimated not to take place til April - due to the requirements of moving a large number of assets a long distance. Also, Operation Blockade will be initiating soon as well.. Another new operation has been initiated as well... Operation Scrapyard. This will be taking place sometime in the next 2-3 weeks... All 4 of these operations are very important to the overall strategy of the Japanese Military leaders - and all should happen fine due to lack of serious allied mobile air threat (no CVs)...

Well have fun and we'll see you tomorrow.

Well these past few days have been slooooww.. The 20th came and went and I missed it.. I blinked... Nothing happened at all.. Some air raids of course and more attacks at Singapore, but nothing happened..

The 21st came and was better... My troops landed and captured Lae - now I will have engineers move in and build up a nice large airfield there - normal max size is 4, so I'll be putting my Sallies there eventually - gonna bomb PM flat...

An IJN sub surfaced and attacked an allied AD.. My sub fired a few shorts bursts with its main gun and luckily wiped out the ADs main gun - allowing the AD only a couple shots in return - 1 of which hit. As my guns worked over the top of the ship, 2 torps exploded underneath the waterline. The ship quickly succumbed to flames and sunk.

I believe the AD was part of a larger convoy I've been tracking via sub float planes, and I'm surprised my sub would surface to engage the AD... Oh well.. One less specialty ship for Rob... I wonder if he'll replace it by converting another AK... I probably would.. AKs are plentiful.

My ASW efforts have also bagged another allied sub... I don't remember where, but my APDs were in the TF and dropped hundreds of depth charges killing the sub.. Actually 1 APD dropped 8 sets of charges, of which 3 hit... More ships hit the sub 2 more times... I believe I am actually doing quite well against his subs right now - killing / driving off most of the dutch subs while he uses his worthless US subs to lay mines in Japan and Wake mostly... I'm sure this will change once the US torpedo is replaced...

The 22nd came and went about the same as the 20th... nothing happened... I did put a torp into an ASW TF near PH before the sub fled the scene. I have captured Gasmata, causing the 100 engineers there to surrender. That was the last allied controlled base on the island and now I only have to chase down the remnants of 3-4 units to clense the island... I may just let them starve.. My units have other tasks ahead of them..

BTW, I think I spotted the Arizona !!! Thats the good news.. The bad news is that she seems to making decent speed so my torps must not have hurt her that bad.. She is being escorted by at least 1 DD and should make port before I can catch her... Oh well.. If she didn't sink, at least she'll be in dry dock for a long time...

I am getting mad at my bombers in Bangkok and Rangoon though.. A nice juicy allied TF sits 7 hexes away from these bases and is spotted every turn, yet no bombers will attack it... The allied TF is sitting at Andaman Is and for some unknown reason my bombers will not kill them.. Reports indicate little to no escort and unless Rob has brought forth his lone British CV it has no air cover... If these ships get away I will be very upset... Same thing at Akyab.. Dozens of merchies come and go to the port, while my betties sit at rangoon sipping sake and playing dominoes... Looks like I need some new leaders... Gonna have to order some seppuku I think...

Hopefully things will get more exciting soon - I think they will as I have several missions in the works...

Another fairly slow turn. More air raids in china leading to just more dead pilots on all sides (AVG, China and IJA). My bombers finally attacked the TF that invaded Andaman Is. After it moved away from the island.. My Sallies and Nells concentrated on a a couple AKs (missed) but put a torp into the PG escort, blowing it into pieces.. The rest of the TF escaped attack.

My subs score another hit inbetween PH and the west coast, this time claiming an AK filled with troops. My sub surfaced and hit the AK with a few cannon shots and then put 2 torps into her to seal her fate.. I'm sure survivors were rescued, but at least some americans were sent to a watery grave.

Other than that nothing much is happening... My assets are moving into position for future ops, and I'm sure Rob's are too..

Another sloow turn, although there were several allied sunks engaged and sent to the bottom... Lets start with some night action... I have two bombardment TFs hitting two islands this turn: Bali and Lombok. I have spotted lots of aircraft at Bali (I think) and want to smash them - so my BBs are involved in that raid, whereas the other is mostly DDs with a few Cruisers...

The Lombok started catching an allied AK and blowing it to bits on the way into the port. A nice surprise was noticed as the ship sunk, taking 800+ allied troops with it.. I don't think Rob would try to reinforce this little base, so he must have been pulling troops out - hopefully a base force just drowned... What I didn't know was that Lombok had a CD unit (or a unit with arty) and my ships took some return fire during the bombardment.. Nothing to hard, except for 1 DD which took a couple shells and has some fires.. The TF hit the base killing another 100 troops, but not getting any aircraft..

The Bali raid went off without a hitch - but I didn't find any ships there :( The ships sailed into port and let loose, killing 140+ allied troops and hitting the base good - but unfortunately once more no dead planes... Did he move them or am I just unlucky ???

In the air more raids by Rob in china results in nothing.. A few planes shot down on both sides, but no damage.. In the PI I raided Bataan and Manilla, killing about 150 men between the two bases. My air units in Malaya are worn out and low on Morale, so no air ops going on there...

I spotted a pair of PGs patrolling near Akyab and sent a nice sized raid after them. Part of the AVG and some British Hurricans played CAP and mauled my Oscars... The oscars did their job though and kept the fighters off my bombers and I managed to hit a PG with a torp, blowing it into splinters...

Also in the air, my Nells found a TF at Koepang and said hi, putting a total of 7 torps into 2 AKs there. Both ships sunk quickly and my Nells suffered no losses.

On the ground Rob had moved some beatup chinese units into Changsha (again) and I attacked driving them back out of my base and inflicting nearly 1000 casualties while suffering 100 myself...

My troops in china also drove of some chinese units north of Canton (on the rail), freeing up the supply line into Wuchow again.

My arty bombardment of Singapore paid off big time, with over 350 allied casualties..

My troops attacked in Manilla and got beatup in the door to door fighting of the city. 250 allies were killed, with over 1400 japanese dying as well.. I am moving some more arty and engineers into the city to help with the fort and to bombard the enemy units..

Thats about it for the turn...

Several days have gone by and IJN subs have been busy [:D] IJN and IJA bombers have also been busy sending numerous allied Aks to their watery grave - several with troops aboard...

An IJN sub found some ASW assets tracking it and managed to sink the allied DD Dewey before escaping from the ASW TF pursuing it. Later the same sub found and sunk another ASW DD (the Monaghan) before. Unfortunately the most successful IJN sub to date has taken damage and it is doubtful that she'll make port [:@]

In the past few days I have sunk 2 DDs and 5 AKs with combination of subs and long-range bombers. 2 of the 5 AKs were carrying troops - supposidely base forces from intel sources in Washington (Rob).

On the ground I have captured Aru Island (north of OZ), as well as Lunga.

I have several CVs at sea looking for allied convoys but so far have found nothing... I wish I had some CVs between PH and the west coast.. my sub-launched float planes have found 4-5 convoys all over the place - mostly merchies - probably carrying fuel, supplies or men... What I would give for 2 CVs smashing them....

Operation Peep-A-Boo is postponed due to bad weather beating the hell out of the TF carrying the troops.. The TF has taken minor damage (couple sys points) but the unit on the ships have taken a lot of disruption / fatigue.. They will need some rest before continuing with their mission.

I have a feeling Rob and I are headed for a large surface battle... I have a good idea (guess) where he is hiding his surface fleet and I am sending in mine to do battle... If successful, I will clear out most of his cruisers and destroyers he has in the area, giving me free reign - I already have air superiority - but I can't find his warships with my planes.... which leaves only 1-2 locations for them to hide [:D]

Well thats about it other than heavy bombardments of Singapore and Manilla.. Manilla should fall any day now with all forts removed and the allied defenders taking heavier losses than my men per attack...

BRITS, AUSSIES, and NZ SIEZE New Calendona

British and Commonwealth forces have reportedly grabbed Noumea from what was described by officials as Vichy French elements governing the island. The operation supported by the Royal Navy, included 10,000 NZ and Aussie combat troops including the famed 27th Aussie, thought to be at Singapore.

Americans retake Adak

The War Department has reported that American ground and naval troops stormed Adak Island this morning in a pre-dawn attack. Department officials say the operation was small and would continue as long as it took to reclaim American soil from the clutches of the evil Xargun empire.

Game

Post by Xargun »

Not sure how many people are still following this AAR, but Rob and I have agreed to restart. I will chalk this one up as a victory for Japan as I feel very confident of my ability to win in early 43..

Rob and I have agreed on a new format for our next AAR... We are going to follow the style of PzB and Wobbly - both Rob and I will have our separate threads to discuss tactics and such and will not read the other's thread until allowed...

Currently we are working out a set of house rules to make the game more realistic - mostly with having to do with slowing down the rate of the game... We have both agreed that its too easy to invade anywhere and anytime we want so we are working on some rules to slow it down... We are also discussing some OOB changes and will wait for 1.3 to come out before we restart.

I plan on starting my thread this weekend probably and air some ideas for my (japan's) first turn and see what you guys think...

Thanks for the ride guys - excellent AAR that I have followed from beginning to this unfortunate end.

There is a bit lost in 'feeling' because you can't see each other's post - allowing a bit of niggle. However, it will be great to actually read how this goes day to day from both perspectives (always written them never read them until afterwards).

You also get an excellent walk down memory lane when your opponent allows you to read a bit of what they have done.

True, but we both feel this way will be better as we can explain our moves and strategies without giving anything away... We can also take opinions from the other readers without giving anything away... Hopefully this will be our last restart.. Rob is getting tired of being beat up and I can't blame him...

29-30 January

Post by Xargun »

Well lets just pretend the 28th of January didn't exist... Nothing happened... And I mean nothing...

The 29th was better with IJA forces seizing Kragen (middle of Java) and IJN forces seizing Attu island in the Aluetians...

Rob has responded with landing the 161st USA RCT on Adak Island and liberating it... My surface forces in the area spotted 3 allied TFs - 2 appeared to be surface combat groups and 1 was the invasion TF... The large group consisted of 3 BBs I think and several cruisers and was spotted a 100 miles (or so) east of Attu Island.. I think Rob was coming in to disrupt my landing, but my landing TF was already away... I moved my surface group consisting of 3 BBs, 2 CL and a DD passed his force to the north...

On the 30th I ordered my BB TF south to Adak to destroy his landing TF and whatever screening force he left there... The TF arrived and found 1 CL and 4 DDs defending the base... My TF engaged them twice mauling them... 2 allied DDs were sunk and the rest hit hard.. BUT the invasion TF escaped attack - it was still there at the end of the turn, it just got lucky I guess.

Now this turn is coming to me right now and I am trying to be sly with my BBs... But we will see..

In DEI my ASW forces located and beatup 2 allied subs reporting multiple hits, but no reported sinkings yet...

Thats about it...

Reemmber as the allies in the Early war always play defensively.

Dont take on the KB until you have a numberical advantage. Maybe even 2 to 1.
