seafire

Post by carlos »

Hi,

Im playing the long campaign and in june 42 the seafire show up in the production pool. I cant seem to find any unit that upgrades to it though. As far as I know the seafire was the carrier capable version of the spitfire, but all british carrier fighters seem to upgrade to the wildcat v. Does anzbody know what to use the seafires for?

thanks

For scenario 16:
British CVE Stalker arrives with SeaFires as their fighter complement (air group FF-809)on 15/Feb/45. They upgrade to Corsair IV( available in 6/43).
Of course, if the ship arrives in a sufficiently supplied port, the aircarft will probably upgrade immediately to Corsair (assuming in the pool).

====
Stand corrected. Aircraft Seafire is slated to normally upgrade to Corsair IV. But air group FF-809 upgrades to Widcat V.

Historically, the Seafire was less than ideal as a carrier fighter. However, as a specialized CAP plane, its acceleration suited it well to intercepting surprise raids and kamikazes.

thanks a lot for the replies,

seems a shame that you produce a decent carrier cap plane from june 42, and cant use it before 1945. My fulmar pilots would love to upgrade, and although the range is not so great, it should prove effective in a defensive role.

does anzbodz know the reasoning for keeping good planes in the warehouses for three years and letting the british carrier pilots flz obsolete crates?

thanks

the reason is of course that 2 x3 mave not modeled the FAA correctly.

In 42 the fighters on RN carriers were a mix of sea hurricanes and martlets (f4-3's without superchargers) Fulmars were phased out in that year, later the RN used a mix of Hellcats and Corsairs They only used seafires in 45 because the two large fleet carriers could not carry corsairs (decks too low) and there was a shortage of hellcats, Thus Implacable and Indefatigable carried up to 48 Seafires. Seafires were first used innumbers in the Med in 1943 covering various landings.
