Rommel to the Rescue

Post by CanadianPowerslave »

When I try to play either of the Rommel to the Rescue's it only gives me 300 points to buy a core force with. I played with the setting in the prefrence for buy points but it does not change like it would in the long campain. This is also true for one other campain that I know of. I downloaded 8.2 and installed no problem. I found this to be true in 7.whatever.

Can anyone help?

Afaik it is as intended. If you noticed Wild Bill instructs player to buy only infantry and atg's. 350 points provided are enough for couple platoons of infantry and couple sections of atg's.
With canned campaigns it is the designer who decides how many purhase points you have to begin with, not the player.

Thanks Voriax, both on this question and the other.

I was thinking he ment more like a company or so of infantry, not just a couple of platoons. Would you need trucks or such for your infantry and atg's or will that be provided for you?

Thanks for taking the time to answere my questions!

Well, you have 350 points. With true troop cost on a Rifle plt* costs 118 points and a 37mm atg section 48 points.
If you, for example, buy two of both you have used 332 points. Not much to buy trucks with, right? Medium truck section would cost 18 points so you could buy some transport. Or buy cheaper squads and save some 40 or so points and instead of trucks buy some recon teams. Or buy just one atg sections. Each to his own taste.

Remember that in the first battle you are defending *and* you have 275 points to use for auxiliary units. This is when you purchase your transports.

if you want more points you can open the Camp editor and change the point to what ever you want. Just click on the build points and enter the new points.

Thanks for the interest in the Rommel to the Rescue mini campaign. It is a series of three battles when the Germans really discovered the power of the 88 against enemy tanks.

To play historically, spend points on 88s, place them well, and get some infantry in support. You'll be facing Matilda tanks and the 88 is the weapon of choice. Even so, you'll find yourself hard pressed to survive as did Rommel. In a couple of scenarios, you'll get some reinforcements so just hold on!

You can add more points as Jess suggests, but it does take some of the excitement and tension from the game.

If it is too difficult for you, an easier way to make it winnable is simply to go to the preferences menu and weaken some of the German abilities, tank and infantry.

I like it because if can really be played, the entire campaign, in one day.

I hope you enjoy it.
