Can't Disband a NEW TF Now

Post by Dereck »

What is going on?

I created a 1 AK ship TF to check out what route it would take from Pearl Harbor to Lunga and when I was done with it within the same turn and tried to disband it, the screen said it couldn't be disbanded AND IT IS TRYING TO UNLOAD!!!

I didn't LOAD anything on it to begin with so what is up?? I am getting EXTREMELY frustrated with this crap about not being able to disband task forces that never had anything in them to start off with.

Will someone tell me what is going on and how to stop this from happening again??????

Was this ship formerly in a transport TF with cargo aboard and unoloading before the TF was disbanded? There is a certain latency effect that has to be corrected in such cases (it sometimes has to do with expenditure of ops points not exactly matching what was necessary to offload the cargo), but it is simple in some cases (and I hope that this is one of them). Just hit the "unload" button and then you should be able to disband the TF immediately. If not, let it sit and wait for next turn. It is, after all, a single AK. Might be different if an ACTF were involved...

Another suggestion would be simply to form the TF you intend, assign its destination, then look at the route selected. If you don't like it, you can assign an intermediary destination.

Often, you can correct this kind of thing. Yes, the game is under-documented and has awkward mechanics. Still, the patient player finds most of the workarounds and practical solutions.
Put my faith in the people
And the people let me down.
So, I turned the other way,
And I carry on anyhow.

I created a 1 AK ship TF to check out what route it would take from Pearl Harbor to Lunga

It was EMPTY. It had been sitting in Pearl Harbor for at least 6 months and was empty when it ws transferred there.

I just wanted to check what route ships would take if i sent ships directly to Lunga from Pearl Harbor.

My China command and submarine forces are on computer control. Other than that everything is human controlled.

I assume this is a 1.21 game that you have continued playing.

Obviously the ship thinks it still has some stuff loaded.

Let it unload and disband when it thinks it is done.

Conversions are not always clean when the original is corrupt.

It's STILL a 1.21 game. I've downloaded the 1.3 patch but after reading all the threads I'm waiting until things settle down some.

Being in the IT profession for over 16 years makes me a bit slow to install anything new without letting the dust settle some.

Try this...set the destination as its home port and turn the auto-disband option on and end the turn. maybe you can get the computer to disband it for you. If that does not work, send me a save along with detailed instruction on how to repeat the problem.

Auto-disband is not an option now unless we want to lose leaders.

part 1. Mine is a 1.3 game. Tankeraces' Scenario 15 variant. WindowsXP. Yes I have a few regions on AI. My ships sitting in Pearl Harbor. When I attempt to ship a few B-17s down to Noumea with some AKs. I ensure the B17s are not computer controlled, click on them to load them and get the "Unit Loading Message". After backing out to look at the task force I notice that NOTHING has been loaded on the AKs. part 2. So I try to delete the task force and get the results that are listed in this thread. I can't remove the task force either because it is loading or unloading. After a turn I am able to remove the task force. This process is 100% repeatable now.[:@]

do you still have that problem ? if so here is a fix...since it is still docked in the port have that ship xfred into another task force.either you can make one from the ships in the port or xfred it into and tf in the port. from there you can disband the new tf. and get your ship back. if there are supplies on it . don't worry...they will unload in the dock...

Yab_dab, thanks for this possible workaround. I have used a similar method to send a large sub patrol to a 'Evacuate' a stranded group of DEI land unit guys. Man that is slow, but so far my sub evac TF hasen't been attacked. Anyway, forming a new task force from the 'frozen' one sounds like a method to try.[:)]
