There's also an ongoing discussion on the tech associated with the show at the SCI-FI webboard. I haven't been in the forum for a while but there was a guy, ernestborg9, in there who has some aerospace experience and had some very good ideas. Thread below:

I've also done a little paning and zooming on those ZOIC pictures I mentioned earlier. I counted Galactica's weapons emplacements (yes. I know. what can I say, I *enjoy* trying to disassemble fictional spacecraft and figure out how they work)
I wrote it all into a text file, copied below:

OBSERVED MAIN RAIL GUN TURRETS (2 railguns each) = 24 TOTAL
8 forward *
8 dorsal
8 ventral
* It looks at least 4 (and maybe all 8) of the forward rail guns can fire in the ventral direction if they needed to. Depending on the height to which their actuators elevate them, it seems as if the dorsal/ventral guns could also engage targets directly ahead or astern of the ship. All in all, a very nasty set of firing arcs for inbounds...


OBSERVED POINT DEFENSE RAILGUN TURRETS (2 railguns each) = 506 TOTAL
Port Pod = 8 forward + 9 aft + 32 over-tube = 49 total

Stbd Pod** = 8 forward + 9 aft + 32 over-tube = 49 total

Main Body = 312 total
Main Body Forward***= 20 port dorsal + 20 stbd dorsal + 32 port ventral + 32 stbd ventral + 32 Dorsal + 32 Ventral = 168 total
Main Body Amidships Section = 24 port dorsal + 24 stbd dorsal + 40 port ventral + 40 stbd ventral + 16 dorsal
= 144 total
Drive Section**** = 96 total
Upper Drive Pods = 16 port + 16 stbd + 8 port dorsal + 8 stbd dorsal = 48 total
Lower Drive Pods = 16 port + 16 stbd + 8 port ventral + 8 stbd ventral= 48 total


**It's hard to tell, but I think that the stbd pod may be missing it's PD railguns. Removed for the museum?
***I don't see any PD cannon on the bow. Of course, main rail guns firing fragmentation rounds might be worse.
****I could be wrong, but I do not see any PD railguns on the central part of the drive section.

well i have marked out on these pics all the small rail guns i can see. an like i said befour yeah the port flight pod has no weapons. an the viper tubes have been decomisioned beacuse there is a gift shop were the laucnh bay was. that should help you a little with the polycount damoclesX.

also i ahve looked over the ships an come up with this weapons count.

Okay thats sweet and its gonna help a LOT

the specs and tech of this show I have 0 info on except what you guys get so its good good good


btw I 'm still working on this, I have the viper done and busted up for textureing and the base textures done, but I got some last minuite calls for some commercial work, so thats sucking my time up right now, but I will get back at this dont worry.

look at that ship

its gonna take me a week to do it, and honestly, I dont see how I can do it under 10,000 polys, those hull ribs just KILL any chance at low poyl work, there is no way it can be done with bumps.... sigh.. I really hope the dx9 engine in starshatter speeds it up, or that turrent issue gets fixed cause with those rails, and a 10k ship.. god its gonna kill the game

The other ships will be higher to, the viper is looking at 3000 polys at least, these next generation models unlike b5 ships REALLY do take advantage of 3d ability, so they are not flying blocks anymore, they take a lot more work to make also.

it is gunna kill the gmae lol. i mena 430 guns fireing at the same time lol. plus 80 small fighters each at 3000k. and base stars and cylon raiders. gunna have to order a second cpu lol

So much for my speculation. [:D] I can't imagine why they'd be designed like that. Poor Damo has to figure out what he's gonna do about it now. And so many turrets! At least now it feels like a real warship. That many guns of that size really gives you a feeling of this being the sort of carrier/cruiser it's supposed to be. I have major respect for ZOIC now. And..and...whoa, I'm impressed by the fans too. *Wanders off to read that thread*

I dunno what I'm gonna do, I"m just gonna make the ships and pray they work basically LOL

they will all use very agressive lods, so that will help, hopefully I can get that viper done tonight and post some pics of it, if not maby by tomorrow.

force milo to put in event driven model/mesh animation and there will be.


I've wanted that for a while:) even if its really primative and you have to bust the model up and "define" the waypoints the parts follow lol.

I dont even know what kidn of guns the viper uses, if those bolts are tracers.. nothing

Wow. If they have 80 launch tubes, I'dve thought they'd have more than 80 fighters onboard. Are you sure thats what it would have had when fully loaded out? I mean a modern NIMITZ class CVN carries 85 (http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/ ... -specs.htm) and thats only 330m (1100ft) long.

well they probably have maybe 30 more fighters on board for replacements for thouse that get destryoed. but 80 vipers are always ready to be launched if a situation arises. Also the galactica has at least 5 raptors on board. which are massive. and atleast 2 shuttles. im coming up with the numbers as estimateds of what i think it would be. in the minisieries the galactica had 20 mrk 2 vipers in the museum section. and 20 mrk 7 vipers. that makes 40 lol. so seing as a fully functional battlestar has 80 launch tubes they would be for rapid deployment. galactica isnt just an aircraft carrier. the nimitz is. an doesnt boast as many wepons as galactica lol.

i would say 80 vipers is a safe bet for a fully functional battlestar. galactica only has about 20 vipers left lol. an all her port pods guns are missing lol. so thats why she is outmached an runnin lol. if she was fully functional and had all her wepons an vipers then she would kick so much cylon ass. she might well be doing it soon. because they have a construction ship in the ragtag fleet that can build vipers an evrything else they might need. and they have an ore ship to recover material they need. they even have a fuel tanker lol

How long is the (new) galactica, anyway? Like mile+ (1600m)?

The Galactica is approximately 4500ft long. which is big lol. what i like about this galactica is that she has a hell of alot of firepwer. i always thoguht the origonal galactica was severly underarmed for a 'Battlestar'. i always wonderd how the hell only 12 of them could hold of the cylons yet galactica with 140 or so vipers was always havign there ass handed to them by only two basestars

the vipers use a solid projectile of sum sort. at least it seems that wau cos it's definatly not lasers there fireing. and seeing as galactica had to go to ragnar for ammo befour she could fire even her pda's i think the do. just must have alot of bullets lol. btw
