China Strategy Guide

How to defend China

The following is a "play it safe" strategy. The goal is to delay the Japanese and make sure they can never split or surround us, nor capture the interior.

General pointers:
Build forts in all cities, don't build airfields
Cities without resources are worthless
Cities with resources allow you to survive

Troop deployments:
Singing: Abandon
Langchow: 1 corps
Kungchang: 1 corps - if in danger, retreat SOUTH before the battle
Yenen: Dig in and hope for the best, withdraw to Kunghchang if attacked in force
Sian: MUST be held, get 1 corps in here at start
Homan: Early defense for Sian, gather all the corps that are nearby here
Ichang: Empty and send the troops north to Sian/Homan
Chengtu: Leave as is
Yunan: Empty, send troops to Chungking
Chungking: Send troops to Sian
Kunming: 1 corps, send troops south
Changsa: Gather forces here for defense, retreat to Chungking when forced to
Hengchow: 1 corps
Kweilin: 1 corps
Wuchow: 4 or 5 corps, be sure to anbandon the city and retreat north if in danger

Personally I prefer to add the following (this is more risky):

When (or if) Japan attacks in force (usually Yenen, Homan or Changsa), consider counter-attacking where they are NOT attacking. If Japan attacks in the north, attacking in the south, and vice versa. This may very well scare Japan into weakening their offensive thrust.

Dig in. [;)]

Seriosuly, I hope no forces are split off north of Sian, if so they are lost. Either way, mass troops in Chungking, with some troops in Kunming. Kunming takes a long long time to march to so the Japanese are unlikely to come that way. If they do you can reinforce from Chunking.

Curious about Yunan. If you choose to eninforce Chungking, Burma/India is wide open. The next thing you know you are starving.
