Not really. I would expect a Japanese player to push me out. I'd much rather go for a defence in depth so that he runs out of gas on the Indian border.[:)]

Yes, but the way I see it is the defense of India. I like to line the coast with troops. It takes a while to get to Imphal and Kohima for the Japanese, and when they do their supply situation will suck rocks. I on the other hand will have nice interior lines and rail links all the way as well as a coastal transport route that will eventually be sitting directly under a strong air umbrella.

Either risk an immediate Burma gambit and the subsequent bogging down of divisions sorely needed elsewhere, or crack the Malaya/DEI front and redeploy for attritional warfare in settled on the Indian border.

Secure your interior defensive lines, then push out.[;)]

thats a smart and historical minded thing to do. Judging by the AAR's i get the impression that most players try to stuff as much Indian material into Burma as they can....usually along the Mandalay line to preserve the Burma Road bonus.

However after WitP_Dude's demonstration and the game Ron is playing.....players may choose to re-evaluate that stance. A blank Indian coast....not to mention Ceylon make for tempting targets :)

I always try to cover them as well. sneaky people are everywhere!

Against a human opponent, anything goes within agreed house rules. Against the AI, though, I'm not sure I buy into the "save a kernel for re-seeding." Later in the war, this just gives the Allies (or Japanese) an advantage they did not historically have. I don't believe the AI is smart enough to do this nor does it respawn land units that have been completely destroyed (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong). Given the insurmountable advantage the human already has - at least as the Allies - why "pile-on" by intentionally saving kernels? I have no problem if an effort to save an entire unit fails and the unintended result is the saving of just a kernel, but intentionally driving a ship into the harbor and saying, "we're only evacuating officers and senior NCO's to re-establish the regiment once the rest of you poor slobs have died for Queen and country" . . . . that doesn't sit well with me. But, you are God in your game; do what you will.

But it did happen - technical specialists, etc. were nearly always evacuated, if posssible, by all sides when things were going pear-shaped. War is hell, especially for the poor damned infantry squaddie.
