Which Scenario ? Newbie

Battles In Normandy is the third game in the Decisive Battles game series. Battles in Normandy recreates all aspects of the Normandy campaign, from the landings on the first day to the final climax of the campaign at Falaise. Strategic Studies Group rewrote the Decisive Battles game engine for Battles in Normandy with a host of new special rules for amphibious and airborne operations, plus a huge number of other enhancements.

The Omaha sceneario is small. Im not going to say easy becouse even with computer set to - and +2/2 on dice rolls and reinforcment and full supply i can't beat the computer. Not on points anyway.
Later take the montys landing or the Carantan scenario.
One more thing that it took me a long time to learn is that when you defend across rivers i often used up to many units that should have been used other places for assulting. Attacking across rivers is almost impossible so no need for your best units to defend. I think that if you remeber this you will be off to a good start.
Also look see how many replacements you enemy is getting, you can see this at the start of the scenario, if he gets few and you many then attack alot even if its A1-D1 outcomes, becouse the enemy won't be able to replace the losses in the long run. When i first startet playing i would never attack less i had 1-10+ Odds but often many lesser attacks will work to.

Im not a good player but ive seen my game improve, but i think this game is very hard, so don't get frustrated if you lose alot, and even when you think your winning you run out of time and lose :(

Your 10+ odds when attacking mean nothing if you don't look at the results of the attack for the defender and attacker. If your going to take "A2" in steps I would really think twice unless I had to reserves to back it up or I wanted that hex! You can get great results with 2-1 odds but if depends on what units are in the hex throw in a shock tank and an engineer and you'll have a nice green dice to add to the attack:) Later.

A2 don't have to be bad if you attack to tire you enemys forces and you have more units and replacements so you can rotate. It all depends on the situation, but then everything does.

Hi Greenbolt welcome to the hobby!

I think the actual Overlord Campaign is the best way to begin as it gives a really good overview of the whole purpose of invading France at that spot. It can then make scenarios like Mortain or Falaise clearer. BiN is one of the few titles in my opinion where playing the entire campaign straight off is very manageable owing to the nature of the front lines.

Also the way I play is with a good book on the battle nearby [:)] There's a new Atlas covering the campaign (here) that gives some nice overviews of actual progress and strategies to compare against your own play. The general narrative is helpful but FYI jumps ahead of map placement owing to the size of the graphics involved.

Let us know what you choose and how you go. I've lost more campaigns in this game than won so far [:D]

What do you mean with, what units can do???

Basicly they can't do a whole lot of things [:D]
But then again they can.

Maybe you and i ought to try out a PBEM game, i always wanted to try that, and you seem to be at my skill level [;)]

And, yes, i have no clue how PBEM works, but i guess its something about sending each a email with the game turn.
what do say. PM me if your up for it.

Just remember if you play a secure game the player who moves second has to send the setup turn to the first player.
