How does this compare to GBoH?

Have you already been to the www.koiosworks.com site and had a look at the virtual tour and other game info? I think you can get a great sense of the game there and do your own comparison. I enjoy both games/series and each brings its own strengths to the table. With that said and with my obvious bias showing, if you like the genre I think your shelf should include this title as well.

Not to mention inaccurate. 2gaulle's opinion on TS:A is, shall we say, unique ? [;)]

That said, whilst TS:A is most certainly a wargame, it falls very much into the "easy to learn, hard to master" category. The nearest comparison I can think of in "feel" is Civil War Generals 2 - there are differences of course, but if you liked one you would like the other, I think.

As to GBoH (or indeed BGoA), they are decent conversions of decent boardgames. TS:A was designed as a computer game, and the play-style is significantly different having simultaneous phased turns. GB is more "realistic" I suppose, but where TS:A diverges from realism it's in the interests of playability. Don't expect a detailed ancients simulation or even a computer version of ancients miniatures rules - TS is a fun, "lite" wargame based on Alexander's battles and has no pretentions at being anything else.
