The first Starshatter virtual squadron is born!!!

Post by Diabolico »

Dear community :

I have been flying flight sims for ages and have been a member of 3 different virtual squadrons untill I've found the 77th Gamblers.
In fact, I've tricked some of my squadmates into buying this game and now they are addicted as myself.
We have noticed that this community doesn't have virtual squadrons yet, as it is too young and flourishing.
The idea to create a squadron comes from the need of easily finding people that want to fly Starshatter often, so I hereby declare created the first Starshatter virtual squadron, wich will be called the 77th "Gamblers" V-CVBG, for Virtual Carrier Battlegroup (as a carrier Battlegroup can accomodate all types of players - those preferring fighters and those preferring capital ships.

Here is the website's page : http://www.77th-vcbg.cjb.net/

DamoclesX and a few others (including myself) are working to create a neat community website and it is not the 77th Gamblers website intention to steel that position.
Nevertheless our site - wich is by it's vocation a SS community website - will help community members and modders by providing file hosting space, tutorials, etc.
The adventure is just begining and do feel welcome to join us!

Can I host and offer for download the "usual files" like the patches, the latest version of Magic and the game manual?
Please post here if I am authorized to offer it for download as well at my website.
Thanks in advance,

I would like to put up the excellent work you huys have been doing like Damocles's B5 mod and Melkor's Star Wars mod, TurgotZ's Arcadia, only to name a few...
In this way, your work won't be lost.
I am only interested in .dat format files, as they are the only ones without hassle, easy to install and enable and with MP capabilities.
Please post here if you agree that I put your work available to the community on my website.

Thanks in advance,

Hey Gents <S>

Diab, my Friend - a 77th Starshatter Virtual Squadron??? - I frellin love it! Count me in.

I've been trying to create a few custom missions to fly but am having a problem with affiliating a squadron with a carrier. If I create, for example, a two ship flight and do not associate them with a Carrier everything loads fine. However, if I associate the flight with a Carrier all I get at startup of the custom mission is that space pic with the white horizontal line through it. Anyone have any ideas?

If you associte fighters with a carrier then that is no longer a flight but a squadron. you then need to make a new flight and associate that with the squadron and then the flight will be associated with the carrier.

Guess I could have been more specific. Yes Pheonix, thats what I did - still got the white line error. One question though - I wanted to create one Squadron with multiple flights ie: a Strike flight, a Interceptor Flight etc., however when I create the squadron I can only specify one ship type for it. according to the manual flight ship types have to be the same as squadron ship types - this kind of defeats the purpose to me.

I was under the impression that on modern navies, for example, each squadron only operates one type of aircraft for one specific duty such at intercept or attack.

[EDIT:] so that's why milo set up SS the way he did.

Carrier launched fighters solution

Post by Diabolico »

Dear Hammer and Community,

Glad to have you onboard. Please mail me your SS (Starshatter logbook) so I can add you to the site's roster (there are already a few of us).

In what concerns that carrier problem, it happens to me everytime I select the player flown fighter when it is launching from a carrier.
In fact, that bug will always happen on single missions but there is a solution for MP games.
The solution I've found is simple. Add all fighters you want and organise them as you want. Assign them to be launched from the carrier of your choice.
Make all these fighters "playable" but none as "player".
Select another craft as the "player" craft, anything that is not inside a carrier or a space station.
When launching a MP game, either "map" yourself to the carrier or space station (wherever you have assigned your fighters) and hit accept.
Once in game, go to the flight menu and launch your fighters.
Once your fighters are outside the carrier, exit the game but don't exit Starshatter (as it will run as long as there's at least 1 player around).
As you've exited the game you will find yourself on the ODB menu.
Now all you have to do is map yourself to the fighter you want to fly and hit accept.
You will find yourself in the game, flying that fighter.
Same goes if you die.
If there are no revives you will find yourself flying as an observer (nobody else will see you and your guns/weapons won't work).
Just exit and map yourself to another unit and get in the war again!!!
I hope this helped...

The 77th CVBG now has a new patch - a patch worthy of that name.
