WTF?

SPWaW is a tactical squad-level World War II game on single platoon or up to an entire battalion through Europe and the Pacific (1939 to 1945).

AFAIK, the only cats at Stalingrad where the Tigers used for Wintergewitter....

Did any Tigers actually participate in Winter Storm? I was under the impression that they weren't used in the southern theater until January 1943, northeast of Rostov.

I'm not absolutely sure about this, but according to Beevor, Anthony: Stalingrad, p. 297 (about Wintergewitter/Winter Storm):
" Hitler nevertheless insisted that no more time should be wasted. He was also impatient to discover how the new Tiger tank, with its 88-mm gun, would perform. The very first battalion to be formed had been rushed to the Ostfront and added to Kirchner's force. "

Anyone knows anything about this?

Kind regards,
Roland

Have little time due to real life problems, so far 2 DVs and one draw. Problem is that in the last battle, I lost an engineer sec *and* my MG, so now I'm without MG....

The campaign is is fun and quick to play, so I'm looking forward to the next weekend....

I'm giving this a try - having to ease myself back into SPWAW after a months of bingeing.
This has proved to be a great online community, and PBEM has been a blast.

I like the small unit forces and maps immensely. I play this campaign Iron Man sytle (ie. no saves!) and the scenarios have a great replay value. While I can consistently get a Decisive Victory on the first scenario, it's always an interesting battle to play and the DV win IMO is not guaranteed. I think I got a MV the first time I played it.

The second scenario is giving me fits!
You got a sick sense of humor M4 - to give 150mm Infantry Guns (StuIg's) as close support. Read: Frikkin splash damage!
I cannot get better than a draw so far ... and i think I got crushed the first time I tried it. Last time I played it - the AI popped off my AO unit with 50mm mortar fire, and now I gotta start the campaign over again. Thank you very much Jess!

I've peeked at Scenario 3's deployment, and I know it will be a slugfest ...
but because these are short, intense, well written battles, I'm actually looking forward to it. [:D]

The news from the front continues! Stay tuned!
The gnome zaps a wand of death. (Nethack)
Don't get hurt! (XCOM: Apocolypse)
Incoming firepower has the Right of Way!
Fire at Will (or Wesley)!

Couldn't find the actual link to the download on spwaw.com . . . ?

- later - now I see it. Maybe I had be logged in to see it . . .? Can't wait to play it. I'm reading Antony Beevor's book right now. I logged in to find out if anyone had a Stanigrad map, and what do I find? A whole damn scenario. Wicked.

Does anyone have a single, big Stalingrad map?

SOme of the best maps I've seen to date on the Stalingrad battles. They are so well done, and still give some room to maneuver. You did a top-notch job, Jess. It will be hard to beat these!

Catlover? Nah, I seriously doubt it. If you do, send me back the pin [;)]
