A few cavalry raiders will no turn the defences. Japan does have 2 division of mongal cav heading north a little east of Borzya so the allied units will have to chase them down.

The Mongol cav is defeated. Still one division is in the free and headed from Oboto to Ondorkan and points further north. Based on this experience I would say one russion division is worth 4 or 5 mongol divisions and can probably defend against the entire Mongol army.-

Air Summery: After 10 days of fighting the russians have lost 214 aircraft against 91 for Japan. Japan has lost 26 zero's-20 in air-to-air and 6 to op losses.

I am allowing the japans army fighters to take on replacements as I see fit. Its a bit unfair since japans replacement pool has not been depleted by fighting in other theaters but the army aircraft aren't that good anyway. I have allowed the navy replacement pool to deplete by transfering nells and betties about so that they add pilots for their reserve aircraft. Right before the pool goes dry I will allow my zeros to take on a few good replacements and then they will have to take what they get. Its only fair since in an actual game the russian theater will not get a 100 good navy replacement pilots. I allow the russians to replace as I see fit since they have their own pool.---I've tried to be as fair as possible when selecting missions for the two air forces.

RE: Invasion Russia II

Post by moses »

In 14 days of fighting Japan has now virtually defeated Russia. In the main battle area russia has only 3 resourse producing sites. Now that Russia has been defeated in hex 70,25 there is no way to keep japan from occupying all 3. Even if Japan cannot capture these locations, all supply production stops and the russian forces will begin to collapse.

Only V currently has enough supply (about 17000 sp) to allow some hope of prolonged resistance. If this location falls, as appears likely, there will be nothing left but Siberia within 30 days or so. Japan can then leave 3 or 4 divisions to bottle this force up and send everything else to China.

I don't see how if Japan proceeds as I have here that there is much possiblity of Russia surviving.

The question I have is if it is winter would not ground combat be a lot slower in real life. Would not the russians be better at defense in the snow than the Japanese on the offense. These are just questions to think about.

Yes, I think there is no question that in real life things would be slower.

Also there is a problem that the Russian has no possibility of redeploying his forces prior to attack. Japan can take weeks to reposition his forces in order to gain massive local superiority. Russia can do nothing until the attack is lauched.

The allied player should be allowed to move his forces within Russia and use his aircraft for recon. Also I think there should be a possibility of Russia being activated when Japan reches force levels in Russia of say more than 11000. This would simulate the fact that as Japan assumes an obvious attack posture, Russia would not always just sit and wait for the attack.

Supplies at key Russian bases:
Kromsomalsk(KR)-7261
Khabarovsk(KH)---3233
Iman(I)-------------1405
Uglahamensh(U)----1637
Vladivostock(V)-----15185

All bases have JP troops present so no supply is being produced except in Irustck far in the north. I don't believe any of that supply is moved to where it can be used.

Supply in key bases: (KR)-6905--------(KH)-2443-----------(I)-1358---------(U)-1579.
Not much to do except try to evacuate the air force to the north. The terrain will keep any of my troops from getting out although perhaps if my troops in KR retreat north some fragment may survive a 3 month march through the wilderness to get out.

Jap air force is having problems since Zero's won't replace pilots. I've changed them to the K army to see if that helps. They were all southern area army fighters. This ha allowed the russians a bit of an air resurgance but now there are no supplies anywhere so it will make no difference.

From here I think I will stop printing all combat reports and just burn through some turns and print a summery. My main force in the north is spitting with about one-third going south to help finish off the russians. One division is going to help the Mongol divisions and the rest are headed north. I expect to take Khabarovsk and Uglahamensh in under a week and then a weeks march to Iman to take the final city.

Were you running two-day turns or just posting multiple one-day turns reports at once. I can't tell and you didn't say.

I've reached 1 Feb. Uglahamensk fell on the 22nd and Khabarovsk fell the next day. Only Iman holds now. Forces from the north have reached the town and await the sothern forces before taking the city. In the vicinity of V a few forts still await destruction and in the woods west of Kromsomalsh a large force of unsupplied Russians continue their futile march toward the mountains. Over half of my Army has already begun the pursuit north up the rail toward irkustuk.

The final annihilation of Russia seems just a matter of time. Mopping up in the south cannot possibly take more than 30 days and once Iman falls (about a week) should require a max of four or five divisions to complete efficiently. The Russians have only four divisions in the north and they are not completely fresh. It should not take more than 10 divisions to take Irkustuk(the march up the rail should take 30 to 45 days depending on how often I have to kick russians off the road.) Therefore I expect to begin releasing some divisions to China and southern area command as sone as Iman falls.

This method of destroying Russia seems very easy and I don't believe there is anything that even the best allied player can do about it.

The best Allied player will start building forts on day 1 and have level 9 forts everywhere by the time you invade. He will also exploit the fact that divisions are being pulled away from elsewhere.

Good test though, I still wouldn't be too sure about how it would play out in a real PBEM game.

I had the Russians building forts from day one and had replacements on in russia from day one.

There is absolutely nothing that Russia can do to stop this. You need 15 divisions with the bulk of supporting armor artillery and engineers at B and you will go right through the Russian before they have any chance at all to respond.

Russia is not allowed to move anything prior to turn one. This is not a house rule. The game will not let you move. Russia has no ability whatsoever to impliment any counter-stategy.

To be absolutely clear. Any player as Japan who employs this strategy will conquer russia quickly against even the best allied player!!

I agree, Moses. But while those 15 divisions are in Russia the Allies better be going on the offensive somewhere else...
