Leaders and Supply Questions

Post by stateless »

A two themed post...

1. I don't fully understand the benefits of leaders - as Japan, Southern Area Army HQ in Saigon - the guy in charge now sucks. Does it matter? What is the difference between an assault leader and a front line leader?

For Airgroups - I tend to put the aggressive leaders on fighters and the careful on bombers and ignore the recommendations (as they are all for fighters anyway) Good idea?

2. Supplies - do they auto flow through blank ZOC hex's in "enemy" territory? For example - rail lines in China - do they need a J?

Secondly - If I clear all the rail lines in China as Japan, can I efficiently supply Saigon and beyond through dumping supplies in Pusan in Korea?

Thanks - Thomas

1) Leaders: As a brief, simplistic answer, yes, the Leaders do matter. The leaders have more qualities than are shown in the game. Look in the editor. There are things like "adminstration" or something like that which you would want in a rear area leader. "Air War" would be good for an Air HQ etc.

2) "Enemy" Territory really isn't (there are no partisans off the map. Yes, the Japanese can trace supply through hexes in China if there is no allied unit and no "A" (push the "w" key to see the As and Js). Remember that most of China has lousy roads ("r" key toggles). Supply runs well along the black lines but poorly on the redder lines)

3) Pusan to Hanoi: There is a limit how far supplies run (search in manual) Measured in movement points IIRC. So rail hexes you can go further, but not infinite distances. Supply does ooze along the road net. But very slowly.

I've been wondering if the supply movement formula was changed in v1.3. With supply and resources flowing so much quicker to other cities, I'm wondering if maybe the cost of moving them through various hex types hasn't been reduced as well. Anyone heard anything?

So for an HQ unit, high agressiveness wouldn't do much, but high admin would raise the assault points in the hex the unit is preparing for??

What about Naval HQs - what is the value of them planning for a hex? If I remember correctly they help ships repair faster.
