Cool USMC Site I Found

Post by KG Erwin »

I stumbled across this one just today--it's a good tribute page, with combat accounts, sections on weapons, organization & equipment, and other interesting items-- http://www.ww2gyrene.org/ Check it out.

Let me add that the webmaster of this site, Mark Flowers, is a squad leader in the USMC Historical Company, a special unit that outfits itself in authentic WWII gear and does public appearances to show how the WWII Marine looked and performed in combat. [&o]

THanks KG. Its good to know someone else is taking the Pacific War banner and holding it high! Bruce AZ has also done a fine job of that. We may be in a gaming minority but we KNOW [:'(] where the real action is! [:D]

Thanks for your positive input on the website. I'm very proud of it, & humble too. The more I learn about our Marines of the World War II era, the more amazed I am at how they were able to overcome such incredible odds. The Japanese were toughest opponent our nation has ever faced. It was just regular guys that became part of something extraordinary–the US Marine Corps, that helped achieve victory in the Pacific.

Devil doc, thank YOU for being here. You should try out the game, and play the great Pacific scenarios and campaigns written by Bill Wilder and Bruce Hodgman.

Osprey books has a new series out titled "Battle Orders," and three of the books deal with the development of the Marine Corps during WWII. It covers their TO&E and the adjustments that were made as they battled across the Central Pacific. There is also a new Osprey book which covers the US development of amphibious warfare during WWII.

Sounds good: I highly recommend the official history published by the GPO, & Gordon Rottman's book, "US Marine Corps Order of Battle in World War II."

[:)]Hey Devil Doc the author of those Osprey books is Rottman. I've heard alot about the Rottman book, so these books should be of some good value also.
