Newbie Questions

Post by newbie101 »

I wonder if I might get some quick answers to some questions I have about WitP. I've played one scenario thus far (Coral Sea) and really enjoyed it. I am now set to embark on a larger scenario as the Japanese and it will involve Japanese production which I didn't have to deal with in my first scenario. Sooo, I had one or two questions which I hope you fine, experienced individuals might answer for me.

(1) In looking over the current production orders for the airplane engine industry I noticed that one brand of engines is being produced which doesn't appear to have a high level of demand. It looks like Mitsubishi engines are more appropriate. If I change production for the little needed engine to Mitsubish the unit production changes to zero engines per month. I can understand that this might reflect a changeover penalty, etc. Is that the case and will production for the new motor begin to increase in subsequent turns or in a reasonable time frame? Is changing production specifications a grave or dangerous decision or generally required?

(2) With respect to ship production. Am I able to specify the types of ships I want to produce? I assume new ships are added to a pool of available ships. Is this correct?

(3) In my last scenario I landed an infantry force with supplies on an allied controlled island. Even though supplies were included with the unit, the unit still showed a shortage of supplies. Do I need to arrange another resupply task force in order to bring this unit up to proper supply?

(4) Where will replacements for infantry, engineering and other units appear? Are they handled through a pool system like airplanes are?

I apologize if some of these questions are poor but I would truly appreciate any assistance you might be able to provide. Believe it or not I have read the manual and am rereading those areas in which I am still unclear. Thank you for your help in advance.

1. Don't tinker with production. You can only break it.

2. You can convert 7000 capacity AKs to tenders and some CSs to CVLs. Aside from that you can only speed up the arrival of ships, not choose which to build.

3. Troops unload then supplies do. After you take the island the supplies on the ships that unloaded the troops should fill them up. If not just send another TF when it is safe.

4. Replacements to bring an existing unit up to full strength come from a pool as long as the unit is in a base with 20k+ supplies. Replacements in the form of a new unit are reffered to as reinforcements and arrive at various places. You can find out where and when they will be arriving by going to the intel screen (The "I" icon on the tool bar) and clicking on "Ground unit reinforcements"

BTW forget the manual. Just start pushing buttons and see what happens. It is the best way to learn. Enjoy!
