How do you make mod archiver work?

I have tried to use mod archiver from www.starshatter.com 's download page and nothing happens when I click over it. If I use the "encrytping option", it gives me a weird error message.
Any ideas or am I doing it all wrong? Is there an easier way to convert mods to the .dat file?
