Missing Scenarios

Post by MemoryLeak »

I haunt the WiTP site daily. I saw someone in that forum mention this game yesterday so I downloaded it. I am at work right now (911 Center) and I hope nothing big happens because I stayed up all night playing Troy...
I do have a problem. I only can see displayed Scenarios 13 thru 18 plus aabout 3 tutorial scenarios. I printed the manual and in reading it it says I should have also had 4 thru 12. Any idea what may have caused their exclusion and how can I get the missing scenarios?

Pretty sure those other scenarios are part of Spartan, not GoT. It's a bit confusing as the manual looks like the Spartan manual with GoT add-ons as needed. Someone requested that the other scenarios be made available as a digital download but no reply from Matrix yet that I've seen.

Sorry for the confusion. Scenarios 4-12 are indeed from Spartan. If you have Spartan insatlled GoT will detect it and read the scenarios from Spartan into Gates of Troy. The manual for Gates of Troy was only 8 pages and Matrix decided to modify the original Spartan manual as they felt it added value to the game. Unfortunately a few things may have been overlooked in that modification process and this sounds like one.

At the moment we are unable to release Spartan maps through Matrix as Spartan is already licensed to Graphsim for North America.

Thanks for the clarification Iain. It is indeed worth it to have the Spartan manual even if it is a bit confusing in a couple of spots.

Okay, thanks for clarifying this. Are the scenarios I received with troy sufficent or do you think It would be worthwhile to find Spartan and buy it? And I assume I would have to uninstall Troy, install Spartan and the reinstall Troy for all of the scenarios to be available

If you're asking me, I'm only just getting started with GoT and don't own Spartan. Some of the 6 scenarios that come with GoT look like significant campaigns and should provide lots of play.

CompUSA shows Spartan at $9.99 on their web site but when I went to the store it was going for $29.99. Not a bad deal but I decided to wait until I've played GoT more.

Slitherine would have to tell you whether you can install Spartan after GoT and have them cooperate but I would guess no.

It should not matter which order you install them. The Gates of Troy exe looks for a Spartan installation to verify the location of the maps, which happens every time you run so order should not be important. I think the price is a misprint based on feedback in another forum - its actually $29.99 for the boxed version of Spartan.

The real strength to the campaigns in Spartan is that they come in a number of sizes to fit your mood, whereas Gates of Troy tends towards big and small. Spartan also allows 2 player net play via Gamespy.

This is an understatement. This manual is the most poorly edited document that Matrix has ever released. I'm sure it was a good manual for Spartan but...

SlapBone,

It was a choice between a modified Spartan manual and an 8 page manual. I think we made the right choice. If you have some specific corrections or problems, post them in a thread here and we'll work them in to a manual update.

At my CompUSA in New Jersey, the ticket price was 9.99 but it rang up at the register as 39.99...needless to say, I inquired why the discrepency and it turns out they did not change the price in their computer system yet...You should print out the webpage showing the new price and take it with you when you go back...it is well worth it as the added scenarios make the game much better, and if you Digital Downloaded GoT, you will not need to have the Spartan CD in the drive to play these scenarios which is a big plus for notebook use....

You certainly made the right choice IMO. There are a couple of minor typos, a couple of grammar errors, and a few references to Spartan instead of GoT, but it's the best manual in any $19.99 game I've ever bought. It does a great job explaining the mechanics of the game and provides a very useful discussion of the units and buildings too. Compared to Paradox manuals it should win a Pulitzer prize! [:D]
