Has any game ever received less publicity? [&:] I thought this thread was a joke at first.

A bit of old board wargaming history.

SPI published a tactical football simulation called "Scrimmage" in their Strategy & Tactics Game Magazine.

Don't leave out Avalon Hill. They had a whole line of Statis Pro titles... Baseball, Football, etc. Believe they even got the Sports Illustrated backing on the box with most of them but I forget. No longer have any of them.

Does anyone remember which Avalon Hill game simulated WWIII? I recall one in particular but it has been many years since I played it. I used to play one that was a basketball simulation. I actually thought it was great. I also was one of the brave souls that played Powers and Perils but had a hard time trying to find anyone that wanted to play it due to the complexity.

The Statis Pro titles were acquired by Avalon Hill and weren't developed by them. The link to Sports Illustrated came a little later too.

Initially, they did have a Baseball game (I forget the exact title) which was designed by Thomas Shaw to reflect his coaching style for the Avalon Hill team that played in the local league! It was part of their "Family / Social" line of games that included "Air Empire" and "Management" and a railroad simulator called "Dispatcher" (a really fun little game). I got a lot of mileage out of "Air Empire" too.

IE not soccer... the other Football that most of the worlkd enjoys!

Actually I think you will find that worldwide there is more support for "Football" i.e.soccer than there is for American Football.

No doubt you are correct, in fact I wish that soccer was more popular in North America. At least it seems to be gaining more of an audience at present. Just like everything else though what is big in one country is not nearly as popular in another. But I do agree, on the level of world wide their is no comparison to the popular appeal of soccer ( or football as stated in most other countries).

So...in other words there's a delay on setting the delayed release date of an unbelievably delayed game? Of course, the last release date given on this game (provided by the developer in PC Gamer) was Feb. 2004. Let's hope this one is a little more accurate.

Actually there has never been an official release date. I have been asked when I'd like to see the game released and offered approximate times but have never set a hard date. I never even provided a hard date to PC Gamer.

Anything like that is just a projected release date. Even the largest developers and publishers push most titles back once, twice, or more. Then they do do a much better job of meeting say the third release date. Except that they do so by releasing a bugged and incomplete product. Oh and even then thats only after working the entire dev team 80hr+ weeks for no extra pay (See related thread).

Is that what you really want? If Matrix said Jan 7th and then had to push it out a week you would complain even more. If Matrix said Jan 7th and then cut corners in order to release it as scheduled you would complain ever more yet. And so on.

We are all impatient for many of the titles here. Some more-so than others. I'd personally pay full price right now for GGWAW, EIA, and CL regardless of how solid or full featured they currently are. With big name titles buggy releases and slightly worse reviews perhaps just mean a few less million made. But with smaller devs and publishers it is literally the difference between bankruptcy or a chance at an actual profitable release. And therefore, more and newer games.

So by being patient and waiting you are in essence better supporting titles like these being made both now and in the future. Your choice.

Veldor,

I understand totally where your coming from, but you have to also understand that most people that want to purchase this game has been waiting for 7 years for a game of this caliber and 5 years for this one. This might help explain the reason behind the excitement. I could go into to FBPRO a football game created by Sierra and its last release that was such a disappointment that could have been the almost end all in sports football games but I don't want to get off topic. Just trust me when I say that it is all about excitment and it is not about being pushy or disrespectfull. Trust me when it comes to people knowing about buggy games most of the people in this forum knows a whole lot more than you might think about situations involved with games being released to early Football Pro 99 being one of those.

I don't know how people have been waiting 5 to 7 years for for this game. I only started working on Maximum-Fooball in around 2001.

And yes, even 3 years is an extremely long time.. but there is only one person working on it.

David -
Ever since Sierra's FBPRo 98 turned into the only computer game I've ever seen recalled (it was that bad) FBPro 99, people like me have been waiting for a graphically rich game where your coaching and roster-managment skills determined your sucess; FBPro98 came out in 97 or 98 and is still on my hard drive.

I too have been waiting 7+ years for a game like this

Cheers

it is not about being pushy or disrespectfull.

That from the person who started 7 out of 10 of the threads in this forum all on the topic of when the game was going to be released. [:-]

Don't you think Matrix and/or David Winter would WANT to tell you absolutely as soon as they knew for sure exactly what that date was going to be?

How many times must you ask? Do you expect Matrix to one day respond with "Crap we just realized we forgot to tell people when the game comes out. Which was last Friday!" [:)]

That said is it just me or has there still been no official announcement from Matrix that they were even putting out this game? Did I just miss it? Obviously they are given the new forum.

I too have been waiting 7+ years for a game like this

I've been waiting since home computers were invented for a full Computerized version of ASL (Advanced Squad Leader). And 20 years from now I will still be waiting for it. Me and the at least 10,000 other people that would buy it. Yet it is quite certain we will never get it. Maybe something close, maybe not.

At least your getting what you want. Even if its seven years later.

So count yourself as lucky.

I have to make the games I want myself. Boo-Hoo. [:(]

Be happy that there are others like David Winter that have done similiar and not thrown in the towel half-way, or even before beginning at all.

Point being, now that there is a forum for the game here, how about a thread about the game that DOESN'T have to do with when it will be released?

Like how bout a thread to tell some of us who are more Matrix oriented about why you like the game so much, what about it you've waited so long for, how it differs from a game like Madden, etc. etc.

Start the community...

I have to make the games that I want to play too. I'm not big on war games myself. Too much USA vs the World for my liking. I did however create a really cool Canadian Patrol Frigate combat sim (sort of like the old Red Storm Rising game with the tactical display and all). Being ex Navy (10 years in the Canadian Navy and served during the Gulf War) I felt I was pretty qualifed to build it :) Unfortunately I got on this football game development kick (I created the official video game for the Canadian Football League) and never really went back to the CPF tactical game to finish it off. I'd be afraid to look at the code now [X(]

Good things are worth waiting for. I have actually sat back for the last two years and watched this game develope, via screen shots of course, and you know one and a half months is not going to hurt me. I was curious to see if it was at all possible to find CFL '99 anywhere?

By the way, Dave, I scout for our local high school football team. You know, I study the team they will play the next week, and it just so happens that the head coach I work with is from Canada, where he played all his football.

David,

I was not refering to your game specifically but to FBPRO. Really the point I was getting at is that we are all excited about the release. I really hope that you do not take it as me being a critic to you or the time it took to develope the game. The point I am making is that everyone is excited about the release date nothing more.
