IJN Type B65

Post by ladner »

Here are the graphics I came up with for the Type B65, which would have been projects '795' and '796'.

These are the stats, had to make up some of the stats (light AA and electronics for example) the rest of the stats are from Fleets of World War II by Richard Worth (I believe Tiornu is the name he goes by on the forum). Also I made up the name for the 12.2" gun in terms of Type 95 and the caliber. Durability I did a comparrison with the Alaska's and based upon Fleets of World War II figured out a calculation on durability. I did a comparrison based on displacement and then factored in the fact these had a genuine under water protection scheme like true dreadnoughts. Have these rated as BCs.

Speed 33 kts Cruise 15 kts
Durability 130
12.2in/45 Type 95 Gun 6 3 F 9 300
12.2in/45 Type 95 Gun 3 3 F 9 300
3.9in/65 Type 89 Gun 8 2 RS 36 5
3.9in/65 Type 89 Gun 8 2 LS 36 5
25mm Type 96 AA Gun 33 3 RS 36
25mm Type 96 AA Gun 33 3 LS 36
24in Type 93 Torpedo 4 2 RS 36
24in Type 93 Torpedo 4 2 LS 36
Type 13 Radar 2 1 A
Type 22 Radar 1 1 A

Silhouette for IJN Type B65

Post by ladner »

Here is the silhouette, will have to convert these jpgs back to bmps to use in the game though. Feel free to use as CA, BB or whatever else comes to mind. Also any feedback or criticism is welcome, not entirely pleased with the catapult/crane arrangement from Yamato, but I want to test my mod [;)]

A nod to Tankerace

Post by ladner »

Let me add I have a great deal of respect for Tankerace and what he has done, it is VERY time consuming to create these graphics, and I did not even start from scratch.

Looks good. Hell, I respect even those of you who don't start from scratch. All my mods use the old graphics for my new ships . . . that's right every damn one of the big BBs looks just like the Yamoto. [;)]

ps. I believe my B65s were Mogami lookalikes.

Thanks

bstarr - thankyou. I made this hypothetical for the Type B65 but shortening Yamato's length, but trying to retain the long elegant bow. Once I got a hull form that I liked I added the superstructure of one of the heavy CA's I believe it was the model for the Takao.

In an earlier post I may have said Tone which is a mistake. I really like the slightly trapezoidal shape of the Takao, a truly beautiful looking warship. Irrelevant (sp?) I believe uses a picture of Takao (or a sistership) in his signature if you are curious about what she looks like.

I do have to confess though, that the HMS Vanguard has become my favorite warship, truly elegant lines. I strongly suggest you check out this link to find out more about HMS Vanguard.

Edit: forgot to mention if you visit this web-page you need to scroll down some for the entrance to the main site, which has many photos.

very interesting site. I especially enjoyed the detail on the history of the ship's 15" guns. I knew that guns had to be removed after so much wear and tear, but I never realized that they were actually rotated between ships. I never put much thought into it, but I guess I just assumed that one ship's guns always belonged to that particular ship.
