So after some posts, some reading, and lot sof trial and error, I have come up with a new way of doing planets.
Here are 2 in game shots, and one of the source textures, takes about 30 minutes to do a texture now.

although, it would be great if the next build had multi layers, rotation, light effects, specular mapping, and glow for the planets

About the only thing lunacell could be used for is really distance shots, or as a template, but then, it has to be very low detail or the fractals will show through easly.
I did try, to use luna to create the base, then go about detailing it, but it turned out in the end to be way way more hassel then any "random" features it might give.
The way I do it now, by using a blank sheet and detailing then coloring works a lot better.

Ya, I was thinking of messing around with that could generator and real nasa could pics and mixing them up.
I used a lot of leather, and some rock patterns in these two planet,s I have not tryed marble I"ll have to give that a shot, that idea with luna might be interesting too I"ll have to try it!
ahhh experimentation!
