Upgrading carriers

Post by ChezDaJez »

Did a search and couldn't find anything relating to it nor could I find anything in the manual.

How and where do IJN carriers upgrade/refit? Tokyo or Osaka?

Soryu has been inport Maizuru for last 7 months reapiring battle damage and is not at only 7 sys pts. Her refit was scheduled for 7/42.

I haven't been able to figure out how they (or any other ship) refits.

Thanks

Among other things all ships need a repair shipyard port to upgrade and must be below a certain # of damage points to upgrade

To upgrade, ship must have less than (or equal to????) 5 Sys damage.

Upgrades can occur at any port, but you want to be at a port tha twill repair quickly, as upgrades cause damage.

The best possible repair situation for a CV would be for her to be
  • disbanded
  • at a level 10
  • with repair shipyards=>2X the CV's durability, plus a
  • Naval HQ with a
  • good leader and
  • 4 AR in the hex. There should be
  • no other damaged ships at the port.
That's 7 variables. Did I leave anything out?

Thanks for the info, guys. Be 2 more months before I get any more ARs.

Oh, well. I guess they aren't going to upgrade anytime soon. I only have 3 totally undamaged CVs and they don't upgrade until 43. Seems to me that installing upgrades would be easier when repairing damage. Why put a ship together then tear here apart again. Guess the IJN employs US contractors too!!![:D]

Good thing the US carrier fleet is at the bottom of the sea!!!

I agree with everything Irrelevant said. But one it MUST be a REPAIR port Section 13.3 and Allied CV's usually have to get to 4 sys damage or less.[;)]

Is it worth upgrading the KB carriers in July to Sep 1942? I assume the downtime is 2-3 months. What new features do the upgraded ships get? I've never played a game past July 1942 so bear with me, thanks [:'(]

Downtime is 1 turn, the SYS damage levels added are quite small for upgrades.

Every upgrade for Japanese CV's is very important. Anything that adds AA capability is good and worth the time.

That's good to hear. It was starting to sound like upgrading would 20 pts or so of sys dam and I'd be sitting in port again.

Kinda need to get her back to sea quick as one of my undamaged CVs just got torped by a sub near Lunga.

The bigger the ship the smaller the system damage with upgrades. CV's appear to be 2-3 points
