Huge WaW/SP innacuracies

Post by GUTB »

There are far too many machine guns and grenades. In 1941, German and Soviet infantry had much fewer machine guns and grenades. In fact, only a few grenades would be allotted to a 10-man squad.

And having a machine gun for every 10-man squad is a ratio ONLY achieved by the Soviets LATE in the whole war.

On the comencment of Barbarossa, Soviet frontier armies matched the numbers, overall, of the German invading force, but these armies were disposed very deep into Soviet territory, and the Germans typially achieved a 3-to-1 local superiority. However, this situation is not represented in the campaign. It seems like Soviet forces match or even outnumber my own, but are pitifull beyond comprehension in combat who constantly retreat.

Wow...what a nice first post

Hello to you too.
The era of procrastination, of half-measures, of soothing and baffling expedients, of delays, is coming to a close.
In its place we are entering a period of consequences..

Nothing in what you are saying which can't be corrected to your own wishes with use of the OOB and scenario editors.

If you want fewer MG's, go to the OOB editor and change it.

If you want a 3-1 superiority, but with better Russian soldiers, changed your purchase points to 3 times the Russian and take away the national characteristics.

That is what's lovely with SPWAW, it can be adjusted to just about what you want it to be.

Well said, Fredde! As the folks at Burger King say, SP:WaW lets you have your play 'your way'.

Going by Red Army Handbook 1939-1945 by Steven J. Zaloga and Leland S. Ness, there was only a brief period early in Barbarossa when the Russians didn't have one LMG per squad. July 41 saw the TO&E reduced from 4 LMGs per 4 squad platoon to 2 per 4 squad platoon, although it is unclear whether the amount of squads was also reduced to 2 which would mean the 1 LMG per squad ratio was maintained. In December of 41 3 LMGs per 4 squad platoon were authorized. By March of 42 there was one LMG per squad again. In December of 42 two of the 4 squads were given an extra LMG for a total of 6 per platoon, although I have seen some doubt as to whether this increase was ever widely implemented. Reduced strength companies later in the war had only 3 squads per platoon and sometimes only 2 platoons in a company for a total of 6 to 9 per company, but each still had an LMG. This info is for rifle divisions, but rifle brigades also varied during the war. One can argue whether these were "paper" or field TO&Es, of course. :-)

Welcome to SPWaW. I hope that you enjoy it as much as we do but you seem to have severly misunderstood the campaign generator. It is designed to create battles that are balanced in terms of the combat power on each side. It does not try to mimic the actual conditions of the war at any given time. If you want the latter, play a mega-campaign, edit your own battles (as was mentioned) or get another player to build battles for you (as some here do).

If there is anything else that seems odd to you, perhaps there is a reason for it so just ask first.

Again, welcome!

What forum are you used to GUTB? Even if you would have a point, with that kind of attitude I don't think you can achieve anything.

As a conclusion, good to see a new member registered, and I hope you will notice how a nice forum this is. I also like this forum to stay nice.
