What Features Would You Like To See Next

Post by David Heath »

Hi Guys

I wanted to get an idea of what features you would like to see in the next game in the series.

Top for me would be improved multiplayer facilities. The current MP game works very well, but being stuck to the campaign scenarios is limiting. I'd like to see player army selection on a points basis to allow a balanced game, which IMHO would make MP more appealing to those who like competitive play.

You would also need a selection of "balanced" maps for MP. Ideally, a map editor would be good with that in mind - I'd like to see it sticking to the miniatures theme by allowing the players to "create" the ground immediately before a game, by placing terrain features in turn as you would do on the tabletop, or by "buying" defensive fortifications etc.

It would be useful to have more historic battles or a system that generates random battles/campaigns to increase the replayability of the game.

It would be nice to be able to play both sides as a single player as this would provide more variety/playability.

It would be interesting to see it grow to include the Napoleonic period and be flexible enough to support battle resoulution for Armies on the Danube and Empire in Arms. The player would use the miniature export files from those games to create the forces for a Tin Soldiers battle and then after the battle is fought insert the results back into the game.

1) more historical rules
2) commands rules

3) pbem

4) better look for the terrain

5) removed the "strategic/fantastic" cards and redoing completly the strategic part of the game

to sumarize :stay simple but do not simplistic

To me the key is replayability, that is the weak point of Alexander. To do that I will add
1) Scenario Editor (both map and units)
2) Random battles generator
3) PBEM
4) Flexible campaign (either with a tree structure or still better with an strategic layer including a map)

The main feature, I want, is the ability to play both sides.

If i had to live without one addition/change it would be the graphics(terrain), IMO they are fine the way they are. I'm sure my Alienware rig could handle "running water" and "ambient life" while playing the game but it would limit it's accessability to the larger gaming audience.
More replayability eg: random battles or at least 2 sides available, but NOT at the cost of the excellent single player missions such as we have now. I disagree with Monsieur De Gaulle about the "strategy cards", not only do i think they should be kept at all costs but maybe added to. They add a huge replay/fun factor and a certain "Je ne sais quoi" to the gameplay. I must have more...something bit me with TS:ATG and after just finishing the campaign in about 5 long days (2 for the last battle[:'(]) i want to start again[8D].

I know that Christmas time is over but here is my wish list:[:D]

My main request concerns the replayabilty of the game:
In order to extend the life duration it would be perfect if we can play both side on single player.More over an evolutive campaign would also be a must:I mean at the start of the campaign the player should be able to choose between an historical one, where all the forces are already fixed, and a "free style campaign" where the player can set up his own army based upon his taste.
Is this possible to be implemented?[&:]
A random battle generator is another interesting option but my preference goes the historical/unhistorical campaign option.

PBEM is really needed as it is quite difficult to make an appointment just to play a 3 or 4 hours battle especially when you are playing with people who are located on the other side of the Earth...[;)]it is really boring...

The terrain looking could effectively be better but it is not essential.

I agree with 2gaulle about the command rules which would provide the game more realism as in TS:AtG you can move your units through the entire battlefield without any restrictions that command rules and some historical rules could prevent so much freedom.I got sometime the impression that the game was too simplistic even though I like that game that has a great potential which needs to be developed.

My last request but not the least:I would like an episode dealing with Hannibal please[&o][&o][&o] otherwise I will not purchase the next episode...[:'(][:'(][:'(] I am not interesting by Julius Ceasar...[:(]I am completely disappointed by this news...[:(][:(][:(]

Painting your own pieces! That would really add to the fun if you ask me, since half of the fun in miniatures is being able to paint them any way you please. I don't know if this would be possible, but it would be nice if the game had it's own select-a-colour kind of option for each part of your miniatures. And if what I have read is true, it would be cool if we could mix it up with who we played as, giving the option to be the Persians, Indians etc. defending against Alexander's army.

But most importantly, if you want to have a game with infinite replayability, the choice for a one or two player random map would be AMAZING. And in this if there was anyway to do a more traditional 2 player on one computer turn-based game would be really cool too.

I know I sound like a raving fanboy, but it's because I really see a lot of potential in this series and I already love what I see from just the demo. It's not often that as gamers, we get too see games like this which focus so much on gameplay and bring a truely unique experience to the PC. No other games exist that I know of, which simulate miniature wargames on the PC, so why not make this game complete, with multiple campaigns, armies and customizability?

If you're gonna be unique, do it with a passion. [:D]

Great game; suits well my historical interests and level of game complexity ( I'm a tired grog). Looking forward to Caesar.

Three wishes, though probably too late to make a difference:

1. Ability to play both sides, including hotseat.

2. Selectable movement paths within movement allowance constraints. (Though that would decrease the importance of initiative, which I wouldn't like.)

3. Ability to see the relative initiative rankings on the deployment screen to avoid early game gridlock. (Or did I miss something?)

Thanks for a good gaming experience.

I'm glad you like! Can you elaborate on #2 maybe with an example? Is it because you don't like the rubberbanding constraint?

In moving from F to A, should be able to go through D or C.

Thanks

Well I can tell you why I have not bought the game yet. Hate the graphics would like at least a 2D hex or square grid and unit counter option for that and their is no hot seat. Both are deal breakers. If it does not have PBEM that won't work either.

skipg,

It is important to note that you have only 3 sub-phases to make a move, so going through D or C in your scenario would not be possible.

For example, if I'm at F and facing North (i.e., towards D), I would Move forward 1, Change facing towards A and Move forward 1 to A. That would get me from F to A. To go through C, I would need to change Facing toward C, Move forward 1, Change facing towards A and Move forward 1 -- requiring 4 sub-phase movements, which is not valid.

Equally, if I'm at F and facing NorthWest (i.e., towards C), I would Move forward 1, Change facing towards A and Move forward 1 to A. That would get me from F to A. To go through D, I would need to change Facing toward D, Move forward 1, Change facing toward A and Move forward 1 -- again, requiring 4 sub-phase movements -- not valid.

So, the choice to move from F to A through C or D is totally dependent on your facing -- which is a very important concept for the game engine.

Hope that makes sense,
Deride

I wonder why its so often ignored it DOES have internet play, which works very well.

PBEM is an odd one. It kept cropping up on the beta board as a needed feature pretty much until everyone tried internet play, when it died a death. The latter really is much better suited to the phase based nature of the system, and (a purely personal view) I would have found PBEM a pain in the backside; unless it had one of those in-game manager things, anyway.

I suspect you'll be unlucky on the 2D and counter option, I can't recall anyone else ever wanting it. In an odd way done properly it could be fun - we have TS that looks like a miniatures game (which is really the point - that gets overlooked far too often), but why not TS that looks like a paper and cardboard counter game too, even down to counter depth and frayed edges?! it work but you need to have an appointment, to have one or two hours free at the same time as your oponent.

Unfortunatly many players couldn't meet those requierements, it's simple as that.
