"Frequency out of range" error

Post by Gamewize »

I downloaded the demo, even the latest demo (which appaeared as version 3.9.0 or something), It installed alright. I start it up, but then it hits a black screen that says "Frequency out of range, try different resolutions" ive tried many different screen resolutions, but I get the same error. I hear music in the background, whats with this?

Marky,

If you don't know the answer, please don't reply to support requests with your opinion. Thanks.

Gamewize,

If it's discussing frequency, what is your monitor frequency set to? I've also asked the developer to stop in and take a look at the demo feedback, so perhaps he'll be able to decipher this.

What resolution and color depth are you normally running at what refresh rate? Are you up to date on your video drivers and your version of DirectX?

Can you post a DxDiag file here please? Thanks.

Regards,

- Erik

DirectX and pilot solution

Post by Diabolico »

Starshatter is ONE OF THE BEST GAMES I PLAYED ON MT LIFE! Also one I played from start to the end, as I did all missions and campaigns and wrote many more.
I think my money is worth it, though I find Battleships are missing (Cruiser being the highest unit... sorry for this personal opinion coment...[:D]), but I believe they will come sometime later.

Now, for the problem. It is a good idea to post here what Eric sugested. In the mean time, try this :
- Install direct X 7 and then update it again to the current 9.0 C or so. You can find directX on some older games CDs or mail me and I wills end you the direct X install patch.
- Check for the newest drivers for your graphics card/accelarator and apply them.
- Just out of curiosity, go to the options menu and turn off the direct 3d option. Graphics will suck but let us know if the game plays ok.

This has worked for a SS newbie I know who just got the game.

I don't think that problem has anything to do with the demo version as my friend had the same symptoms but without the frequency error message, on the patched game version.

Perhaps his problem isn't the same as your problem but try this anyway! It could be the same origin as it looks like it is hardware related.

Please let me know how this work/not worked for you![;)]

Try downloading this file http://starshatter.com/demo/video.cfg and putting it in your Starshatter directory. If that doesn't work you can open that file up and try changing the resolution numbers to something you know your monitor supports.
