I forgot to mention but I agree with your employment of CVLs/CVEs, basically they contribute nothing against DEI (my humble opinion, of course!)

Solo tre? Pensavo fossimo qualcuno in più, tu è tanto che giochi, intendo wargame in genere?

the mini-KB will give some aircover during the Tarakan landing, but then the'll join the KB at palau

No signs of the enemy's CVs. They just disappeared in front of my eyes. His moves have been fast and smart, and, despite i put all my subs on his way to keep the contact i've lost him on the deep pacific waters. this will surely effect the outgoing of the war in a long term view. However i've no time to stop and think. KB has spent the day replenishing and tomorrow will move southwest.Direction:Truk
The mini KB is just south of Mindanao. Will support the Bombardment tf which is approaching Kendari. An Invasion TF is on its way 180 miles west of manila.
In Malaya my brave men has closed the door to the running away allied units.I have 2 divisions and a mixed brigade( plus a tank rgt and a paras unit) around tavoy area. He Should not be able to get out of Malaya.
Another division is moving northwards, in order to take back the base( do not remember the name) 3 hexes east of Rangoon(the one on the railroad), which has been conquered by a Burma Brigade.

RE: 2 days

Post by Gen.Hoepner »

No big news in these two days.after the fall of Naga the gates of Manila should be open.Another division is ready to be unloaded and the bombers are increasing their activity against Clarks and Manila. In two weeks we should be ready to lunch a massive attack.
in China my aries are surrounding Changashga and the siege will start soon. At Canton things are quite different. At the moment the chinese corps seem to hold the gained ground.Do not know if this stiff resistance is due to the latest patch or what.
In 2 days a new invasion force will smash and occupy tarakan.
At Rabaul the S.S.D. is ready to attack allied defences.Hope this will be enough.

RE: The first Japanese defeats

Post by Gen.Hoepner »

Ok, this one has been the worst day for japan since the beginning of the war. the 2 big attacks lunched against the chinese armies have ended in 2 big massacres for my men. Canton is under siege and i'm unable to fight those bastards back.the same is for Nannings. Worse:The new commander in chief of the middle-chinese-army, Feldmarshal Von Meinstein( just kidding, but this commander has the same smart brain of his german colleague), has pushed forward his men and has broken my defensive line south of Homan. Now this front is collpasing and i have to change the whole chinese plan!!!
At Rabaul i've lost 1 CA and 3 DDs are so damned damaged that they will sink before reaching truk. I engaged his fleet with the stupid self confidence of being the best fleet in the world for night operations. Facts prooved that i was wrong. My men tried to attack Rabaul, but, as always, the battle was lost and they had to go back to the beaches. Now only the KB will have the chance to give a hand to those exausted soldiers.
In Malaya he stopped his rush at Victoria Point, understanding that he could not hope to escape. Now it's my turn to move south and push them back with 2 divisions and a tank regiment. But...but, there's always a but in my plans[:@], 3 units have been seen moving south of rangoon towards tavoy.probably 2 burma brigades. So, i have to be ready to counterattack here....he's such a damned good player! i'm setting up a big airdrop operation with 4 units from Bankok. I want to cut his lines in the back if he decide to advance from rangoon.
Tarakan should be taken tomorrow...but the problem, the real problem now is Rabaul and the central chinese front.....i'm becoming paranoid!

RE: AAR-The Italian Affair--Hoepner vs. mc3744

Post by Gen.Hoepner »

Not that much to say in this turn. Rabaul continues to puzzle my will. If the air strikes that will come from KB next week won't force those aussies to leave the base i'll have to reimbark my men. I have no reserves left at Truk.A Strong BB fleet is moving southward to support KB's attack.
I've moved the whole transport air force at Bankok. 4 selected paras units are preparing for operation "BELMONT" which will be lunched as soon as the recon will add some more news about allied movements around Mandalay and Rangoon.

Defeated Allied Units Retreating!

Some other priceless oilfields are conquered. Now i have to secure the Area with Betties, Nells and Zeros. Ambonia, Brunei and Palembang are my next targets. 3 Convoys are on their way.
KB and mini-KB are ready to hit Rabaul. He wisely moved back all his aircraft from this advanced base.
He's surely reinforcing Wake island. My mines prooved to be very usefull and more of them will be laid as soon as he moves back.
The Battle for Yenen is starting and soon the Changsha siege will be ended with a victory for the empire.
Singapore, in this situation, should not last for long. I'll keep punding his port and its AF. All my units at Kuantan are now moving south.
At the state of the recon art, there are no units at Pagan. This could be the goal for Operation "BELMONT". Every single Transport unit available on the map is now at Bankok. 2 SNLF units and 2 paras Rgts are almost ready to be drop behind the enemy lines. I'll wait for the conquest of Victoria Point and then lounch this great offensive operation. Rangoon must fall as fast as singapore!

My real concern now about Op. Belmont is: Even if i manage to conquer Pagan by airdrops, will 4 little units be enough to hold the ground against a counterattack from Rangoon? i have to calculate the right timing for the 2 divisions that are intended to support the paras by moving South-north on the railway

Careful using the Para drops. The units may vanish on you. If you do take the base, I doubt they can hold it. They do not pack alot of punch. I have had a Dutch Reg kick the crud out of both Para regiments together. It depends on wether you capture a decent amount of supply or not. If supply is in the orange upon capture, they will not hold.

Thanks for the input mate. For "vanish" you mean a bug or a defeat? I know it's risky to use them in a so advanced and offensive role. My intention is to scrumble his defensive line holding Rangoon. With the "bunker tactic" he's using, i'm afraid i cannot make up a front attack at Rangoon, so i want to force him to divert some of his forces to defend/counterattack his back lines not to be cut off. I'll do some more recon over the bases next to Pagan(between Mandalay and Rangoon): i want to be sure that i won't face any strong defence. This operation,BTW, will be lounched only when Victoria is taken and 3 divisions plus 1 tank rgt will be free to march towards Rangoon. What d'you think of that?

Vanish as in bug. They thought they fixed it in 1.21 or 1.3, but I had the 1st Para Reg vanish on me after a para drop. Now air transport is only for desperate times for me.

I take it that the 3 divisions will be the 33rd, Imperial, 55th divisions? They are usually plenty to take Rangoon. Unless your opponent moves alot more forces into Rangoon. Be prepared for tired troops though. They will reach Rangoon in the 50-60's for fatigue.

Moving slow though aren't you. I have always had Rangoon by 1 Jan 42 and all the other bases south of there except some of the Malaya bases. Your armor Reg is more than enough to take Victoria Point, only has a base force there. Other than that everything sounds good. You can always take the 4th Mixed reg from Saigon and move it to Hanoi by ship and free up the 21st Div. I always send the 21st and 38th (from Hong Kong) to the PI to smash Manila and Bataan as fast as possible. Those extra 2 Div plus all the other Southern Army units based in Japan proper shave 1-2 months off the siege.

At Victoria there are more than 35,000 enemy troops that tried to escape malaya and join rangoon. I Had to use the Imperial guards and the 33th to close the exit door from Malaya, that's why it's taking me so long to get to rangoon. He's probably reinforcing Rangoon with some troops as i saw some transports at port there. Cannot attack them as long as AVG CAP is up there. The good point about this being late for Rangoon is that now, with 35k men not fighting for Singapore, this city will fall much sooner, so that the invasion of Java will begin sooner as well.

AH, now I see. Never seen that move by an Allied player before. Most head for Songapore, not North to Rangoon. Or at the least they try and slug it out with me in Malaya. Did you re-direct the 5th Div from its move to Songkia in Malaya? I am usually sitting in Alo Star 3 days later blocking all escape routes north.

Not nit picking, just curious. I may have to go read the other page again. I may have missed the info. I am always trying new tricks as the Japs in my PBEM games to speed up the Allies doom.

Yep, i redirected 5th div to Kuantan, cause i wanted to try something different. This allowed him to move fast northwardsm, untill he found the door locked by the Imperial and the 33rd. Now i'm moving to crush them back from Victoria and then move northwards again to support Op.Belmont, I know that it's already late, but i cannot leave the gate for Bankok undefended!
