Allied 4E bombers best ship killers
15 Liberators bombing my ships at Chandpur and they get 11 hits on 3 of my APs! And this nearly every turn. They are bombing around 15000 feet! So how can they place more bombs in my APs than dive bombers would do?
This has to be looked at and the accuracy of these 4E bombers has to be decreased. Just like the bug above 32000 feet.

While I agree that the number is high also consider that each Liberator holds 20 or so bombs.
RE: Allied 4E bombers best ship killers
Not to sound snide, but that's why don't base ships within 4e bomber range.
A better example is Rabaul. Why do think Rabaul was never used a major anchorage by the Japanese? Because they were (justifiably) concerned about B-17s clobbering anything that parked there. Their CVs were -never- based at Rabaul, they always sailed from Truk.

I know what you mean, ive got b-17s killing my shipping.
Ive had 6 b-17s getting 7 bomb hits on one Ap. [:@]

And that´s just IMPOSSIBLE in my opinion. They drop their bombs in a row and - some specialist could answer this - I´m sure the distance between the bombs detonating on the ground would be big enough that at a maximum 1 bomb out of each bomber would hit a ship. So 6 bombers hitting one AP with 7 bombs is just impossible. Level bombers had enough problems hitting their targets if it was a big factory plant, so why should they hit with that accuracy a ship. I think even 6 dive bombers would have problems all to hit the target.
RE: Allied 4E bombers best ship killers
Actually, it's true, it should be impossible (if the TF is at sea).
I believe there is a game constraint that says no more than 1 bomb hit per plane if bombing a TF at sea (if level-bomber), regardless of the number of bombs carried.
That was put in, to simulate exactly what you're talking about. The stick of bombs disperses, and so you'd only get one bomb hit per plane.
I don't believe there is any limit on the number of possible hits on a port attack tho.
Are you sure your TF at sea, was hit by more than one bomb per plane?

RE: Allied 4E bombers best ship killers
The plane was just dropping one bomb at a time while circling the target ship. It is a 6 hour pulse for the air phase. 6 hours in the am and 6 hours in the pm.
RE: Allied 4E bombers best ship killers
I'm sorry. I'm having an image of a B-17 crew trying to line up on a little minesweeper. Make a first pass, drop half the load (wouldn't do that), turn around (takes about 15 miles), reaquire the target, get lined up again...

I had the same image in my head while typing it.[:D] Only mine was a really good bombadier that could pickle the bombs one at a time.

Anybody remember "B-17 Bomber" on on Intellivision?
The thing would intro with "Bee-17 Baum-er!" Sounded like the guy was from West Texas...

Boy, you are dating yourself with that one.
But yep, one of my friends had it at his house. My first "computer" was a C64/128 and i plumb wore that sucker out.

RE: Allied 4E bombers best ship killers
The distance between bomb strikes on the ground is directly correlated with speed and altitude of the plane. I believe I saw in another thread about the normal distance between bombs being about 100 yards or so for planning purposes.

RE: Allied 4E bombers best ship killers
I haven't seen 4E bombers be the best at attacking ships at sea. In port, yes, they are pretty good (especially at lower altitudes) due to the quantity of bombs they carry. 1.40 reduced the effectiveness somewhat but as you can see in another thread there's still a lot of analysis and discussion going on.

I am no Allied fan boy but I have a problem with Betties being able to fly halfway around the globe and smack my ships with torpedoes. I know that those little rice burners get great gas mileage but this is increadable.
I guess it balances out in the end.

Yes, those 2E long-range torpedo bombers suck. I'm continually seeing groups of 3 to 5 Bettys and Nells come in vs. 15 CAP fighters and get at least 1-2 hits on my ships every time. It seems possible, but almost every time defies explanation...

RE: Allied 4E bombers best ship killers
Not quite the point. You are correct in that any Japanese base in range of LBA-should be in danger, and you are also correct that the Japanese were worried about taking losses at Rabaul. However, I think this is a different issue. Rabaul was considered dangerous by the Japanese because even one bomb hit on a warship or carrier meant the loss of a valuable asset for a very long time. And, I think they were worried about just that-the chance hit or occasional hit, and that is why Rabaul was not a viable base. In the game, any player that docks his ships in range of LBA should be prepared to take some damage.ORIGINAL: Feinder

But, what the orginal poster is talking about is an unseemly large number of hits, which I think is a different issue that needs to be addressed.

In my experience, G4M's haven't done all that bad from 15000 feet either. I won't use them at extended ranges, so it only happens to me. It's annoying.

Cant say i agree, Betties seem pretty rubbish with Bomb loads, they have trouble hitting airfields at plus 10,000 feet, let alone a moving ap. Whenever i airfield/port attack i put them at 8,000 feet or somthing.

I've read accounts of other types of bombers doing just that. Even making a dry run the first time - 3 passes total!
