BIN How realistic is it?

Battles In Normandy is the third game in the Decisive Battles game series. Battles in Normandy recreates all aspects of the Normandy campaign, from the landings on the first day to the final climax of the campaign at Falaise. Strategic Studies Group rewrote the Decisive Battles game engine for Battles in Normandy with a host of new special rules for amphibious and airborne operations, plus a huge number of other enhancements.

BIN How realistic is it?

Post by Jacko »

I'm considering to buy this game, since I'm impressed with the reviews and the comments of people on this forum who own it. But I'm not totally convinced yet. How realistic is this game? For example, if I'm playing as the Germans and I'm doing the same things they did 60 years ago, will the AI let the Allied forces act in the same, historic way? Can anyone give me an impression of how the AI works?

The A.I is great, in my game it has taken Carentan and Cherbourg but it's struggling to take caen, i 'm slowly being encircled by the A.I just like real life.

So it gives you the feeling of reality? No strange things happening, no unrealistic losses? Unit strength is realistic? HJ Panzer division has more hitting power than 21st Panzer for example?

Well the PanzerDivs do range in quality, 12thSS is higher rated than 21Pzr,but it's not a history book so they can be destroyed at any tiime, when cut off.

I give this game the highest marks I've ever seen for historical context (i.e. realistic results over a campaign) and replay value.

Each time you play an opponent its feels like a new game (playing humans via PBEM is the most interesting as a live opponent makes more mistakes than the AI [:D])

The game also factors in heroic efforts better than any other operational wargame I've played.
