Question about sounds

Post by jordos »

Hi there everyone,

I was wondering if anyone might know how steel panthers decides a weapon is a machinegun, or artillery, ... When playing the sound, the soundmap explains well what is a pistol, light machinegun etc... But says nothing about what is regarded as artillery/tank gun/machinegun/bomb. I read the "using the OOB editor 101" topic, but it doesn't answer my question, 'small guns' type can be both machingeuns and tank guns...

Thanks in advance!

Each weapon OOB has a sound it is directed to, which was decided when the game was deveolped or has been updated with various versions.

RE: Question about sounds

The OOB editor shows some weapons have a unique weapon sound, but most show a 0 instead, I understand these use default sounds instead, based on their type, warhead, size, ... The soundmap doesn't give information on what values decide the sound to be played should be the artillery weapon, or tank weapon, or machinegun when default sounds are to be used. That is what I'd like to know.
Sorry if I wasn't clear in my first post, hope you understand it more clearly now.

Thanks for your reply!

The sound map is very straightforward. For small guns versus machine guns, for example, the class determines the sound. Small gun class is different from team weapon class.
Machine guns, whether team weapons or small guns are all warhead size 1. Sounds for rifles are different from machine guns by virtue of the HEKill value, weapon size, etc.

Other weapons with larger warhead sizes will have sounds assigned according to whether they are small, medium or large guns, and mounted on a tank or classed as artillery in the unit list
They struggled with a ferocity that was to be expected of brave men fighting with forlorn hope against an enemy who had the advantage of position......knowing that courage was the one thing that would save them.
