Those look like F4F-4's.

Hull number 30 is USS San Jacinto. CVE30 (USS Charger) would have an elevator visible in the center of the flight deck, aft. That is why I thought it was a CVL.

Speculation: If F4F's were replaced by Hellcats, by late '43, in front line units, and San Jac was placed into service Dec of '43, than these could be unattached or training (carrier qualifications) aircraft.

Looks like one Wildcat got a "wave off" because another was still in the landing zone.
Or were we supposed to name the guy in the yellow shirt? My guess is Zack Yerblonski...

They look like FM-2 Wildcats Note they only have 4 guns and appear to have the larger vertical stab.
If you look and the two pictures alot of details on the port side look to match so I guess USS San Jacinto with FM-2's
