Level Bomber Ammo Choice?

Post by Thurmonator »

How does the game handle whether Beauforts carry Torps or Bombs? I've tried to test it but I can't seem to figure it out.

When they are at range 4, or normal operating range, they seem to carry bombs. BUt then sometimes they carry toprs too. I just don't get it.

Any help understanging the torp versus bomb routines?

TIA

Level 4 airfield, range 4, altitude 6000'. Torps every time. Range 6 for bombs.[;)]

Level 3 airfields for twin engined bombers carry bombs only. They are considered to be operating at extended range value. This is very important to note if you want your medium bombers to fly. Put a RAF HQ within range of them and it will also increase the number of planes that will fly the mission.[;)]

I have had Beaufort V-IXs, Swordfish and other aircraft that list torpedoes as their standard load fly less than normal range from size 5 and larger bases to drop ... bombs. Try again, Halsey.

I've never seen that. Must be a bug in your game.[:D]

What altitude? 6000' for mediums, 5000' for single seaters.

I don't think altitude has any impact on this. If you set it 20000 this is approach altitude than they drop to 200 ft for actual torpedo run, dive bombers always bomb on 2000 ft regardless of mission parameters. It is somewhere in the manual.

I usually play the default altitude for the torp guys. So far I've never had problems with them dropping torps. It's the only default altitude I use.

Didn't have any problems with them either. Lemur's scenario has some wierd Beauforts with bombs (looks exactly like Beauforts with torpedoes) which upgrade to normal Beauforts.

BTW Why Beaufighter Mk21 doesn't have a torpedo? This is the only reason I still use Beauforts in 1943.

They took the torps off them in UV. Something about that model never flying in the Pacific.

Here's the bomber requirements for airfields.

To fly with normal loads. Size 4+bomb load/6500 round down.
Anything else is considered extended range bombing value.

Halsey!!! I didn't know you were a WITP guy as well. Hey where you been? It's 6 March 1942 and last time I saw you, it was early Dec 41 and you were commanding one of my Air Combat TFs in Hawaii...then you disappeared...I think you're AWOL and I need you to return to your ship ASAP. The Japanese are running all over me and Spruance et. al. can't take the heat.

Better yet, contact one of these developers and tell them how you disappeared so they can fix the LEADER BUG...
