How Many Regions

Hi -

How many regions will there be in the game total? I noticed from the screenshots Australia as region 230, Germany as Region 66 etc. For example see

And another question what are regions? Countries? Sections of a country?

About 365 regions in the game (counting sea and land). The areas are smaller countries or parts of larger countries (US is 6 regions, France 3, Yugoslavia 1, etc.).
All understanding comes after the fact.
