New Chosin Reservoir scene.

Post by BIASEDHISTORIAN »

I am planning to release the scenario, "Frozin Chosin", after the holidays. I have tested it and have a little fine tuning (obsessive compulsive disorder), to keep the Marines from completely expending their ammo in the first few moves- I am finding that the rate of fire is very intense and that most of the shooting is on the Chinese move. You just hold the yes key down for the ten minutes it takes for the Chinese to either stop or overrun your position!

Anyway, here are the details...

___________Frozin Chosin*
*
_USMC Delay vs. Chinese advance*
_________Hagaru-ri, Korea*
_______0300, December 1st, 1950*
____________Turns:30**

_______Scenario Size: Large*
_Estimated Play Time: 3 hours**

____Design:__kayak*
*
____Player Notes:**

___This scenario is designed for Human (USMC) vs. AI (China). It requires the Chosin Reservoir map.**
Marines do not retreat, they attack in a different direction!
*
*
___7th Marines has been issued orders to consolodate at Hagaru-ri. The orders come at a time when your forces are spread out across an 8 mile trail in some of the toughest terrain ever encountered.
___Temperatures are 30 below! The Chinese that struck and withdrew in November are appearing in growing numbers. There has been conflicted intel but it appears that at least two different CCF battle groups are attempting to close the trail and cut our lines. Based on their previous tactics, be prepared to engage the Chinese from any direction. *
*
___Remember, every Marine is a rifleman. You will need everyone one of them to keep the road open. If you lose command of the road, the sub-zero conditions and limited ammunition supply could doom your forces. Due to the deteriorating situation, air support will be on standby to assist you.*
*
___Task Force Faith is under heavy fire and reports are mixed about their positions and casualties. Intel reports battalion level engagements north east of Hagaru-ri. You are to lend them any assistance possible, without compromising your lines.
*
*
___Gameplay:**
___In an effort to reproduce a historicaly accurate engagement, the equivilent of 1 USMC battalion will be engaged by "at least" 4 CCF battalions.
*
___Historical Background:**
___After pushing to Yalu River, X Corps was spread out across the Chosin Reservoir region. In the face of strong attacks by CCF forces, 7th Marines had taken part in the successful defense of Yudam-ni and began staging for a breakthrough to Hagaru-ri.
* ___The battles that took place during that breakthrough set the stage for the successful manouvering of the 1st Marine Division out of danger, while engaging up to 7 Chinese Divisions. The Chinese forces though overwhelming in size, were inflicted with such staggering losses, that on a stragetic level, it cost them their planned conquest of Korea.*

Here is the finished scenario, with screen shots taken during testing. The scene and new map should be available shortly at the gamedepot.

Enjoy,

This sounds like a good one, with time compressed to take in a lot of the action during those terrible days at the end of 1950. I'll have to try it...WB
