Will there be...

A random battle generator or a campaign mode a la Steel Panthers? No biggies if not, but now that we're getting close to release I was wondering about it.

Since I have never played Steel Panthers I have no idea if it is similar. I would say based on the word Random, it is not. But there are two scenario editors that come with the game. The first is described here Scenario Editor Hilights
the second is an ad-hoc generator which allows fast construction of a fight based on units chosen from the database. Main difference will be the ad-hoc generator does not save your scenario; essentially allowing you to quickly make a once-off battle.

Thanks for the info! Will the ad-hoc generator select the opposing force automatically, or does the user select everything?

I have always selected myself. I don't think it is automatic. But there are some standard force elements there for easy picking, which can then be edited... so you can take a bradley company, but remove 1 or 2 of its elements.
