Good thing the auto victory doesn't occur until 1943, otherwise this could be close to toast

Action heats up all of a sudden.
Operation Spotted Dog goes on as planned. The 1st Marine Division, supported by a BB bombardment force, lands on Makin and establishes a beachhead. Prior recon had shown the presence of 2nd Maizuru SNLF and 52nd Naval Guards. Air cover is supplied by a marine F4F unit, as well as Army P40s based on Tarawa. Also close air support is provided by a marine Dauntless unit.

The battle of Wake V4.0 starts. B26s from Wake attack the Japanese BB TF approaching Wake. Nells and Zeros attack naval forces in Wake. Also a carrier TF is noted approaching Wake. Will the defences hold this time? Only time will tell.

Still more action today. Heavy air attacks over PM presage action in the area. In addition the feared Betty torpedo bombers reappear in Rabaul, to the detriment of a transport TF that was resupplying Gili.

Wake 4.0 proceeds with very heavy air attacks on Wake. The CAP however gives as good as it gets, and causes some damage. Twin engine bombers raid the Japanese TFs repeatedly, however they are directed to attack the Battleships, whom they can't hurt. They do score two hits on one of them to no effect. Of course if they scored two hits on a carrier deck, they could incapacitate the carrier, but, they would have to get through the CAP. Perhaps the Air commander is not so foolish.

The Battle of Wake, V4.0 continues. Up to now it is a flagrant demonstration of the futility of Level Bombing against enemy TFs. It is also great proof of the effectiveness of Coastal defence guns. I am pretty sure that his Warspiting Majesty can take Wake if he wants to, but it does look as it will cost him some. US submarines continue to be plagued by bad torpedoes[8|] but Dutch subs do a great job.
Makin invasion continues, but now an enemy TF is seen in Nauru. What does he have up his sleeve?
In Timor, an enemy bombardment TF does its thing, and then (perhaps the same) TF is attacked by B25s. No effect of course, but this armed recon reveals two BBs, a CA and a CL. His Warspiteness has some designs in the Timor area; hmmmm.

Oi and and company received very little damage from coastal defences. I presume the units in question are equiipped with pee shooters.
Operation Aokage KAI is now underway sans the 20th division. It is still en route from Korea, but should land by the time hostilities are ended. Then on to deal with those American forces at Tarawa and Makin.
