Starshatter Central/dedicated server - Milo

Post by Diabolico »

Starshatter Central is planning to put up a 24/7 ded server, to end all of these MP issues.
This will, offcourse, be brought to you free.
However, we are delaying it's creation before we know the following :

1. Will there be a new-engined version of SS out in the next 1-6 months?

2. Are there any Matrix games projects to make this game playable on any Battle client such as Battle HQ, Hyperlobby or any other?

We need to know this in order to decide wheter or not to go away with this, as all this costs lots of money and time to set up - and it would be worthless to do it for a short period of time.

Thanks in advance,

If there is, you just need update the software, right? You know, install latest patch. Don't even say about new engine, Starshatter has been in sale about ½ years. Even if milo is working on with new engine, it takes years of work with building it and betatesting.

[edit]Oops! Did I stated Starshatter has been on sale one and half years? It's less than half year. Corrected.
You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.

You do have a point but I'd like to have an official statement here as this ded server project will cost me money and lots of time - and not just my time! [;)]

I Dont see any way milo can convert the engine to dx9 and issue a "patch"

all his ships and any other object would need to be re-magged and reconfigured to work in the new engine, not to mention he already stated he has to re-do all the interface screens

Way to much to list here!

Sounds like Starshatter 5.0 to me. That'll take some time. If we get our hands on it earlier, I guess it is much like 3.7.6: game engine for beta testing with little stuff.

... it would still be nice to have an idea from Milo or Matrix games (wich are official sources) about their 2005 SS schedule.
Nevertheless, SS Central was and still is working on a project to bring you a free 24/7 server where we can play anytime.
Yet it would be nice before spending considerable amounts of time and money to have an idea if some improvement to SS will be made this year, like a new-engined SS or something as "radical".
Stay tuned...

New game to buy or not, you would still need hardware to run that thing, right? I might recommend some used but working junk: Athlon Thunderbird and enough RAM. Server don't require (read: should not require) graphic adapter to run the game, so integrated chip should do.
