Historical Dates of Conquest

Post by scout1 »

OK, I'm being lazy not looking this up ....

Alot of discussion on the forum always centers around a comparison of the actual events. So, what were the dates for the following

1) Fall of Clark (PI)
2) Fall of Manila (PI)
3) Fall of Bataan (PI)
4) Fall of Kendrai
5) Fall of Singapore
6) Fall of Hong Kong
7) Fall of Rangoon
8) Fall of Rabaul

Sing to the tune of "Man on the Flying Trapeze"
..Oh! We fly o'er the treetops with inches to spare,
There's smoke in the cockpit and gray in my hair.
The tracers look fine as a strafin' we go.
But, brother, we're TOO God damn low...

mlees,

Where did you get 11 Jan for the fall of Kendari?

I got 24 Jan according to "War Maps from Sept 39 to Aug 45" by Simon Goodenough.

Got to love his last name though.

Though it might explain the discrepancy.

Remember that dates used in WITP are US dates (PH) and so you have to add 1 to the date shown by the game to know wich date it is in PI, Malaya, DEI and so on.

In WITP (US-time) dates, Hong Kong surrendered on Dec 24, for example.

The game seems to use the same "time zone" across the map from India to San Diego. For example, it's the same 12hour night time naval move phase everywhere.

Why bother with trying to figure the date line effect?

If your comparing yourself to how the historical counterparts did, a ballpark date is good enough...

OK. I got my data from "The Second World War in the Far East" by H. P. Willmott,
pg12, (chronology section, The Indies 1941-45):

Entry for 11 Jan reads "J. secure Manado, Kendari, and Sandakan 17th." I stopped there. I did not see this entry for the 24th: "J landings on Kendari." until you asked me to verify. Sigh. Apparently a poor editing job.

I reverified using "World War II, Day by Day" by Donald Sommerville, pg 118:

Entry for 24 January 1942 reads as follows: "East Indies Four Dutch and American destroyers attack the Japanese transports off Balikpapan, sinking five ships. There are Japanese landings at Kendari in the Celebes where an important airfield is captured."

Oops. Thanks for the catch.

No problem. I just like to verify sometimes that the book I qoute a date from is accurate.

His last name of "Goodenough" makes me wonder at times.
