Any Progress on 59 mile land movement bug.
Any Progress on 59 mile land movement bug.
I seem to be having this problem again with units sitting on 59 miles for turn after turn.
RE: Any Progress on 59 mile land movement bug.
Is it a unit that is now plotting off road movement to go around an enemy to get to it's destination?
RE: Any Progress on 59 mile land movement bug.
unit in adjacent rail hex moving to road hex. Enemy stack is in destination hex.
RE: Any Progress on 59 mile land movement bug.
If ive understood what you've said right, i think ive just had my Imperial guard division do that outside Palembang. Landed at Jambi, started marching towards Palembang, but it seems to have marched into a jungle hex to go around a british unit on the road imbeteewn Palembang and Jambi.
Most annoying, they've basically knocked themselves out of the war for 30-60 days...[:@]

No. This is the same bug thats been mentioned by many people for a long time. you plot movement into an adjacent enemy hex. movement goes up normally for several turns until you get to 59 miles. Then it sticks at 59 miles forever. You never move as long as the enemy stays in the target hex.
Not due to fatige, disruption, leadership, supply or any of these things. Unit is not trying to go around anything as it is targeted for the adjacent hex. Unit moves normally until reaching 59 miles. Has been reported many times by many people.

And as always, the answer is.....

RE: Any Progress on 59 mile land movement bug.
I sent a save a long ways back and I assume (at least from the posts) that others have been sent. I was just checking on status of this since its been affecting me again. If the answer is "we never heard about this before???? then .........??
RE: Any Progress on 59 mile land movement bug.
I just had a strange movement. 7th Arm Bde, one mile away from Akyab. The GD unit changed it's movement orders and headed back to Decca! Two and a half weeks wasted!
Double that since I had to set them back on course! JHC

I had the same thing happen in my PBEM few turns ago. One enemy unit managed to escape encirclement thanks to this, my brigade was stuck at 59 miles for two turns traveling from rail hex to another rail hex. Once the enemy unit left the hex I was trying to enter my forces moved into it.
RE: Any Progress on 59 mile land movement bug.
Thats it. Your units just sit at 59 miles for however long it takes for the enemy to retreat.
RE: Any Progress on 59 mile land movement bug.
Any chance of getting an answer to this??

No answers here. I have two units going on their fourth week at 59 miles. Always when moving into enemy occupied hex. As soon as he moves out, I will probably move in....too late of course.
Did the saved game thing before.

I did also a month or so ago.
RE: Any Progress on 59 mile land movement bug.
OK I've worked with this and now have instructions and saved games which create the bug. I've done it several times and it always works.
1.) Take 4 Jap divisions and 1 independent bde and send the to hex 46,35 to retreat the 1 Chinese corp there.
2.) On the turn you deliberate attack give movment orders to a single Chinese Cav corps in hex 45,35 to move to 46,35.
3.) The turn after the deliberate attack give all to march orders to the Jpa units in 46,35 to move to 45,35. The units are now each going to the others hex.
4.) The Chinese having a head start and better terrain will reach 59 first and stay there for several turns until the Japanese finally move into hex 45,35 ending the Chinese movement.
The above process was conducted in head-to-head mode using 1.4 and I have saves of each turn from beginning to end.
It is possible that this is an undocumented feature which prevents two units from passing each other without contact. It looks as if when two units are moving into each others hex the program determines which one "wins" and only that unit gets to move regardless of who gets to 60 miles first. I've run quite a few tests now and its always the smaller of the two forces which gets stuck at 59 miles.
The details are unclear. Is it based on AV, infantry strength, TOE strength?? Is it modified by supply, disruption, fatigue etc. factors. Do units not moving count or only the ones moving. Does this feature operate only for mutual movement between two hexes or can it involve movement between several hexes. In other words if you are trying to move into my hex and my force is moving toward a different hex that you also occupy might your units get locked out by this feature.
Or is this just a bug!?
In any event some clarification would be nice.

RE: Any Progress on 59 mile land movement bug.
The more I look at this it appears to be a feature and not a bug. I've reproduced the "bug" numerous times now and have come to the following rule. This is not in the manual and is unlikely to be completely correct but it fits the data that I have seen and will serve as a working theory for now.
If the enemy is moving into my hex and I am moving into his. I count the assault strength of units he had moving into my hex the previous turn. I count the assault strength of units I have that are ready to move (will go over 60 this turn.) If I have more my units move. If I have less then my units stick at 59 miles and stay there until the conditions to move exist.

RE: Any Progress on 59 mile land movement bug.
Unfortunately, it appears to happen even if the enemy unit is retreating away from you rather than advancing towards you. I have been stimied in numerous advances and my oponent has always been running.
RE: Any Progress on 59 mile land movement bug.
Was this against the Ai or in PBEM? If against AI are you sure that they were retreating with their entire force. I have had the same situation against the AI and assumed that they were retreating due to the game situation but since they never moved I have no way of knowing.
I have tried to reproduce the bug with units retreating but have had no success. I sent in the game save where I assumed the AI was retreating but I have gotten no response.
