Great entertainment guys, liked the carrier battle! Did your carrier make it Dadman?

I'm somewhat uncertain about what I should do with the troops in Singapore and Mersing (the base just to the north right)
in my game against 2ndACR. It seems so futile to hang around waiting for the steamroller to approach. There are 6 forts at Mersing and I got almost 40k troops there.

My opponent has sent 2-3 divisions straight into Burma, forcing me to abandon Rangoon in the first days of January 42.
With the Imp div + other major forces engaged in Burma, could it be possible that the remaining troops in Malaya will have a hard time reducing my forts and capturing Singapore?

If I move now, I could save several Australian brigades - if not they will most likely perish.
Btw, we're playing Lemurs mod.

Can you old war horses give a first time Allied WitP player some advice here?

Also been thinking about deploying the AVG to Singapore and then move in some bombers. This will give me striking power and cause difficulties for the Japs. When the situation gets difficult, it would then become necessary to withdraw the air units back to Java. Does this sound like a worthwhile risk?

Saratoga is hidden under a clump of bushes repairing battle damage now that her fires are out. Better her than Yorktown. 4 torps would have doomed Yorktown.

On the Maylay Penninsula, I adopted a hold out as long as I could strategy. The British would not have abandoned their 2nd jewel of Asia, so I didn't feel I should either, but I'd say if you're going to hold, then commit enough forces and resources to do the job.

I like to play as historically as resonable, the exception being the way I've handled my carriers. America would not have pulled its first line of defense out of CenPac to protect another country's Imperial possessions.

As to Burma, I'm pretty clueless about that theatre.

Java/SRA/DEI is likely to fall anyway, so whatever you move in be prepared to lose. That area is vital to Japan's economic future, so he'll do what he has to in order to secure it

Aussie Cruisers shell Tulagi, hitting (among other things) PG Fukui Maru (once) and AS Taigei (twice)
64 Japanese casualties reported

I just re-read this bit. The fact that he had a Sub Tender (AS Taigei) there is not good news. Remember the intel that Kimmel got regarding how the Japanese operate. It went something like, "a major operation will likely be proceeded by a deployment of submarines in force."

That means that it is likely that his subs are either prowling or are about to prowl SoPac waters like piranha.

Finally found some time to have a read!

Looks like mog is ahead of schedule but he's had to take some damage (and loose CVs) to get there. Even if you lost Saratoga as well, 2 early allied CV for any two Jap CV is more than a fair trade. You'll get replacements, he won't.

As for Rangoon - as the allies against Doomed I once tried to evac from Rangoon - let the 55th division in, and then do the instant counter attack to try and retake the place and crush the division. I had evacuated from singers, so had all those troops at Rangoon, and I had been stockpiling troops in the area for just such a try, including the arm and arty you can ship from India in the first few turns to rangoon.

I outnumbered his division about 2 to 1, but he had me on quality, so the deliberate attack was a disaster. However he didn't have the strength to push me out, so I mauled hmi for ten or eleven turns straight with my packed arty units (I literally emptied india to do this). I didn't win, but I did at least maul him long enough to retreat to Mandalay.

I believe his Phase 1 (capture of SRA/DEI) was slated to be completed by May 1. He'll likely make it, as he now owns everything except the Maylay Barrier (Palembang to Soerbaja I own still). He will likely commence ops slated for April to secure those areas.

Phase 2 will be to secure the Solomons and New Guinea. This could include cutting the supply line to Australia. I suspect that is his plan, but specifically how, I do not as yet know. China is just a straight push for as many resource centers as he can muster.

Phase 3 I think is to set up a defense perimeter and watch the fireworks as I try to smash my way through him.

Saratoga has been saved, but she's essentially a burnt out hulk. I've hidden her under a clump of bushes somewhere in the SWPac/SoPac theatre. I'm kinda pissed that it was Enterprise that bought it and not Yorktown. I have a thing about not letting Enterprise or Saratoga get sunk...

Hi
Phase I is occupying resource/oil centers and obtaining bases to defend them.

Phase II is inflicting as much damage to enemy as can be done without losing too much.

Phase III is fighting enemy offensives.
