AI Scripting

Hi all,

I was wondering if the game editor will allow you to script the A.I. for scenarios.

Sadly no, it is highly locked down right now and there is no user tweaking allowed.

Someday maybe, but I have to figure that out with David Heath first.

Cheers, Rob.

Just to highlight the AI a bit... There really isn't any scripting of the AI at all. As a scenario designer you set up the initial placement of the units and some other minor stuff and the AI takes it from there. The AI will then look at the victory conditions and what it needs to do to win.

I don't see it as a disadvantage to not have AI scripting, *if* the AI is smart enough [;)]

Question: Is the AI smart enough?

Depends how dumb the player is, doesn't it? [:D]

Actually the AI is decent. It does have its limitations and after a while the human will adapt.

"Decent" is good for me, I'm not the type to spend hours studying the situation and am as likely as not to make dumb moves. Just so long as it is good enough to give me a challenge.

Just to let you know I was playing a scenario tonight and thought I had things covered. I moved a unit to the rear to rest and refit, and low and behold the AI had gotten to my rear without me knowing. [X(] I was able to adapt and overcome the little sneak the AI put around me, but if it wasn't for this unplanned contact I might have had lost the scenario.

Hi All,

My point is that if you can script the A.I. you can direct it to fulfill orders as you may want it too for a scenario. So one scenario may have different outcomes that can be directed by the scenario designer through scripting the A.I.

For instance in Sqaud Battles Eagles Strike, where you can script the A.I. , I designed a scenario where Paras attack 2 bridges. In the first scenario I have the A.I. moving to defend the bridges. In the second I have them fall back to regroup and counter-attack from a different direction. That is a handy feature for scenario design.

I have many game titles that have no A.I. scripting and I enjoy them very much. They are just not as flexible.

As far as FG goes I will buy it as reading the excellent AAR's indicate a well thought out and interesting system.

Regards John.
