RE: Possible BUG game-Killer

Post by Gen.Hoepner »

His attept to use his dutch PT boats failed at Kragen. He was lucky with the weather in Burma. My planes at Rangoon did not take off to bomb Mandalay because of the rain. Now my recon says he moved back his bombers( probably to Chadupur). That's bad, but at least i forced him to move back his front line. He spotted my bomb TFs near Rangoon. Let's see if he decideds to abbandon the skies over Akyab or not.My oscars will LRCAP over my ships advancing towards Akyab.

the RN is badly hit

Post by Gen.Hoepner »

The BUG or whatever is it is still afflicting us. My mate told me he could not move back his troops even if my men were not bombing/attacking for few turns in a row.I decided to move my guys back of 60 miles and let the Muleim and Reaghen base in allies hands, but, the turn later, the movement of my men was gone back to 0. So we both cannot move. Is this a known feature?[&:]
Anyway war keeps on going on.
This turn i've visited Gili Gili. He probably knows that in few turns i'm comming in, so he's putting everything he has on that little base. My new CV( Junyo-sp?) is comming down to truk from Tokyo. She will join KB2 during the operations in South Pac.
In Burma/India, today was the Betty day! As i predicted last turn, he moved in Diamond H. the AVG to defend his precious ships. The dreaded AVG was probably fatigued, cause it only shot down 1 zero. My betties suffered some losses( mostly by AA fire), but managed to deliver those 800kg bombs and few fishes in the big allied ships anchored there. The indomitable suffered a AMMO STORAGE EXPLOSION, while Royal Soverein sunk after a MAGAZINE blowing up![:D]
My Bomb TFs have been spotted. If he's smart he's gonna move his bombers back from Akyab to India. This will let me pound his AFs at Mandalay and Akyab freely. The Sun of the Empire is still shining!

RAF's turn

Post by Gen.Hoepner »

A good day indeed. My 2 BB TFs smashed akyab and destroyed 81 a/c based there. A retaliation was attempted by RAF starting from Chadupur, but those unseless bombs did not do anything to my strong ships. The LBA groups based at Rangoon gave another push to Akyab. Now, with Mandalay AF almost empty and Akyab out of order for a while( i plan to keep on pounding the AFs there) i'm planning a fast raid with my KB1. 2 big TFs( at least 10 ships each) are moving fast out of Diamond Harbour. My betties did not take the chance, so i ordered my KB1 to move from Tavoy at full speed. In 2 days they should cross the retrating RN way. I know it's risky, cause he has planty of bombers at Chandupur and Diamond, but the price of another 20 ships in my bag worths the gamble.I really hope to find some damaged BBs....[:D]
The COMMING BACK operation is on the way. the south sea det, with 2 Naval garrison units have been loaded at Truk. KB2( with 300 a/c) will face the threat of the enemy's carriers, while the zeros and betties based at Rabaul will cover the skies. The bombardment BB TF is coming back to truk. It will give some more steel for this operation. Gili Gili should fall easy and the base forces for Lae and Gili are already on their way from Tokyo.More engeneers units are moving from Osaka to Truk. They'll be distributed at Lunga and Tarawa.
In china everything is going well.

Another bad day for RN

Post by Gen.Hoepner »

As i foresaw the Allies tried to put al theri 70 ships stationed at Diamond Harbour in a safer location after my port raid of 3 days ago. My KB1 was there to wait for them. Only a damned bad afternoon, with rain and storms, prevented my planes to sink the entire Royal Navy. Now the fast british BBs are somewhere south of Madras. I'll go for them, turning west. I do not know if i'll have enough speed but i MUST give a try! if i manage to stop the communication lines in the Bengal Bay i can even think of a deep indian penetration, when the bug or whatever is it in Burma will be solved.

BANZAI!

RN out of order

Post by Gen.Hoepner »

The raid in the Bengal Bay became one of the best days for the Empire. My KB1 caught the running british BBs between Cylon and India and launched two storms of planes against them.None of them is reported sunk, but they surely are badly damaged.Tomorrow the hunting will continue: i want all those ships in my bag! The winter is comming for Japan and i want to be ready!

RE: RN safe

Post by Gen.Hoepner »

Well, the clouds prevented my KB1 to launch the final attack over the BBs....they are safe now, cause i'm running fast out of fuel and have to go back. Despite i know i'm loosing a big opportunity, i'm quite happy about the results of this raid: The RN will be out of action for a while now and the way to Chandupur is now open.
We finally managed how to move the units stuck. He's retreating his units from reaghen and Muleim. When he'll be 2 hexes north of rangoon, i'll move northwards, towards Mandalay.
At the same time the first units that liberated Luzon are being loaded for Java.
Op.COMMING BACK has been launched. A new storm in New Guinea is arriving!

RE: RN safe

Post by Gen.Hoepner »

In one month the entire railway of China will be in my hands. Then i'll have to decide weather to advance more or not. If i manage to get those other 100,000 men defending Homan, i'll probably have the chance of destroying the whole Chinese army. This will be tough, i know, but all those Vpoints are too important if i want to face the 1943 in a safer position.
I'm still a bit woried about the Gili gili operation. It's probably too risky for the value of that little base. But i'm defenetly sure that if i do not starve out PM , in few months my positions in the Rabaul/New guinea area will be unteneable. I will play my CVs in a defensive role this time. Want to be covered by Rabaul bombers and zeros and at the same time force him to try something with his pacific fleet.
Nanomea Atoll will become a problem in the next months. Must suppress it before it's too late.
My opponent at the moment is a bit depressed for the VP situation. It's been a bloody month for him.
Now i have to decide what to do with Burma. The agreement we made will let him concentrate 150,000 strong men at Mandalay. It will be very very difficult to conquer this base. A landing at Chandupur will be very risky and even if i manage to take this costal city it's not that clear weather if i'll be able to secure the RR there and close the Burma army in a big Malaria afflicted pocket....
Hard decisions to take

COMING BACK

Post by Gen.Hoepner »

My KB1 is running really out of fuel( many ships already in Red). I hope there won't be real problems to come to Rangoon again. I cannot send my Replenish TF out due to the strong Air Threat from diamond and Chandupur. The BBs are defenetly saved. That's a pity. I'm still uncertain wheater or not to invade Chandupur. Quite sure the 18th UK div is waiting for me down there.
I started to suffer heavy sub losses in Pacific. My subs are very important for my srategy, due to their fantastic ability to scout enemy movements in dangerous waters. Gotta save them and be more cautious.
The operation for Gili Gili is on the way. A base force will be landed one week after the conquest of the base and will provide long range patrolling and a fighter base. As soon as Lae gets at level 2 AF i'll send there a base force also.Let's see if he dares to mass reinforce PM. KB2 is being reinforced with a brand new CV from Tokyo.

Changing Strategy

Post by Gen.Hoepner »

Ok, i lost too much time for this damned problem of the "bug" at Burma. Now that , after the agreement, all the armies ( 150,000 men) that the allies had stuck at reaghen came back safetly to Mandalay where forts and supplies were waiting for them, the chance of a Big Envelope are almost gone. Now, with Chandupur, Calcutta and Diamond completely full of units and planes, a landing operation there will be too risky for my naval assets and i will need a lot of supples and fuel, both of which i'm getting short in the southern area.
With all these considerations, i decided to run for a fast victory in Java. 3 divsions , 2 eng units , 3 arty units and some tanks will move from Rangoon to Java, where they'll meet the Philippinian army which is arriving in rates. With 8 divisions i hope to get rid of Java in less than 1 month.
For Burma i'll advance with 4 divisions and 2 brigades towards Mandalay. The bombers will supress the base and i really hope not to get stuck there.
Few more bombardment missions with my BBs have been planned.Akyab and Chandupur will be the targets.
My KB1 is going back to singapore. With the RN out of action there's no need to keep it up there.
In New Guinea, Gili gili will be reached in 3 days. My task forces are ready to fight with 300 ac of KB2 and the 50 zeros and 70 LBA from Rabaul. Once base forces and garrison units will be installed at Gili and Lae i'll start consider starving PM and make some more raids in the Gilbert area.

BURMA:

Now that the idea of a huge operation to put a foothold in India has been put aside, i decided to concentrate my efforts in Java, in order to take it out ASAP. For this pourpose, 5th and 56th divisions, which were committed for the Rangoon invasion, will be loaded in trasports and will sail towards Merak( west of Batavia). These two divisions will form the 25th Army with 3 heavy arty units, 2 engeneers unit and the 14th Tank regt. All these units are now placed at rangoon. Should arrive at Merak within 2 weeks i guess.
KB1 will sail southwards from Rangoon towards Singapore. With the RN out of action and the operation Belmont canceled, there's no need for a strong carrier force in the Bengal Bay.
The Burma front will have his main base at Rangoon, where under the command of the Burma Army there will be the 15th and the 16th army, composed by 33th,55th,18th and the Imperial Guards Division. These four big units will be supported by 3 Heavy arty units, 1st, 2nd and 6th tank regiments, 2 Engeneers Regiments, 4 constr.Bns , the 21st and 23rd Mixed brigades.
The main goal for these two armies will be to smash the mandalay allied front and to secure the entire Burma area. I do not plan to advance more forward than the rail road. When this goal will be accomplished, two divisions will stay at Mandalay, while 2 others will be placed at Rangoon. Each of these groups will be alternated on the front line, in order to fight the Malaria problem in that damned area.
There gonna be heavy air battles in this theatre. The allies have assembled a huge air force in the indian bases. Two Lilis and 2 Sallies sentais are placed at Rangoon. These planes will keep on hitting Mandalay and help my land troops in conquering it. One Betties and 2 Nells daitais will give Long Range support and will be setted to Naval attack, manacing the movements of what remains of the RN in the Bengal Bay. The fighter force will consist in 2 zeros daitais based at Rangoon with 2 Oscar sentais.
Tavoy will be used as a reserve base. here a low experienced zero daitai with an Oscar sentai and 4 Betties daitas will be ready to enter in the main action if needed. the 3rd Air army with 3rd air division will be in chief of the air operations in the Burma Area.

JAVA:

The 4th mix regiment and the 35th brigade are already waiting at Merak. they will be joined in less than one month by the 2 divisions coming from Rangoon and by the Philipinian army( the so called 14th army, composed by the divisions 38th,48th,16th,2nd,4th, 3 engeneers regiments, 2 tank regiments, 5 heavy arty units and some more little marine infantry units).
The KB1, as soon as it reaches Singapore, will give some support to the operations by covering the air space over my transports, along with a zero daitai based at Benjarmais. Considering that there are no allied air assets in this region, i have not planned to use a lot of planes here. The reducing of the fighting ability of the defenders of Batavia and Soarbjia will be provided by the great bombardment fleet ( TF 121) under the command of Cpt Takeda , formed by the BBs Kongo , Haruna, Hei, Kirishima, Ise and Yamashiro, with the CAs Atago,Maya,Chokai,Ashigara,Mogami,Mikuya,Suzuya and Kumano. At the moment this big fleet is on its way to bombard Akyab. when this operation will be ended, it will sail towards Singapore and from there it will start the reducing of Batavia.

CHINA:

As shown in the Map posted yesterday, the situation in China is very good. I've already eliminated more than 300,000 chinese men. The entire chinese asset is retiring towards the inland bases. ChungKing is my main objective. There are at the moment two big army groups operating in China. The first one is formed around the 1st Army and it is composed by 6 divisions,8 brigades and 5 regiments with 2 arty units. This force is conquering Sian which seems to have been left empty by the chinese armies. When Sian will be conquered this force will march westwards, manacing Chungking from North West. Sian will operate as a advanced air base. Here will be placed some Oscars and some dive bombers which will provide air support and covering.
The second army group is the biggest and strongest one. 11th,12th,13th,26th Armies, under the command of the Chinese exp. Force HQ placed at Canton. These 4 armies have at their disposal 8 divisions,4 regiments, 3 brigades,4 eng regiments, 7 arty units and 1 tank regiment. This 4000 assalut points army will march from Wouchow towards Kweiyang, then will move towards Kunming in order to close the road that links Chungking with the rest of the chinse empire.
At the same time one division and 3 regiments will operate as indipendent forces along the roads that from Changsha lead to Chungking and Kweilang. More than 100 heavy bombers and 50 fighters will operate from Changsha suppressing the light threat of the chinese Air force.

SOUTH PACIFIC:

When the operation Comming Back will be over the Japanese Flag will be set on Gili Gili. This base, along with Lae, will be fournished with engeeneers and base forces and will help Rabaul air forces in starving PM and force the allies to come out and play with their carriers. In one month KB1 will come back to truk and will help KB2 in defending the conquered perimeter. i'm quite sure the first move of the allies in this theatre will be a landing on the Gilberts. I'd say Baker,Makin or Mili atoll should be possible targets. Tarawa is probably too well defended at the moment. More than 200 assault points, CD guns, AA guns and a 120 support base force are based at Tarawa. the AF is at level 3, and the works for the new level are already at 80%. Levl 2 forts. When the level 4 Af will be reached i will move some more betties and zeros there. With Kates,Valls,Betties and zeros+ mavis and Petes this base will be a hard nut to crack for the allies.
I will keep the two KBs between Truk and Kwajalein. With their 600 a/cs this naval force will prevent the allies from doing anything in this theatre.
Lunga is growing slowly. In 1 week one more constr. bn will arrive , joining the forces there.Level 2 AF,1 fort.....too slow!
Munda,Shortland,Green Island,Kavieng and Admiralty island are building up with base forces and engeneers. for the end of 43 i WANT this theatre to become a huge fortified area.

if the allies won't do anything for the next 3 weeks ,i will consider the option of a Big raid between Canton Island and Suva, with my two KBs in coordination.

VICTORY POINTS,RESOURCES,PLANES, POOLS:

14312 Japanese score
4143 Allied score

I've already sunk more than 260 allied ships(2BBs,4CAs,7CLs,11DDs, and a huge numers of TK,AK and APs)
I've lost 22 ships (6 ss, 3 DDs , 1 CA, 1 AP, and some MSWs and that's all)

3 allied BBs are for sure badly damaged and the CV indomitable should be in bad troubles.

Japan lost 944 planes, while the allies 1110. this is the black spot in my score. the bunker tactic he has used with aerial asset prooved to be very efficient.

I'm quite happy with my carrier force. Despite some losses with pilots, my CVs are intact. 7 CVs,2CVEs and 3 CVLs are operating with success since the beginning of the war.In 2 months i will have one more CV and one more CVE at my disposal.

I'll attach the map of the resources pool. Not that bad i think.

Gili Gili Invaded!

Post by Gen.Hoepner »

The night warfare is growing up very fast at Rangoon. My oscars and zeros are almost completely useless during night time, but at least the keep the enemy fighters away from my precious airfields. The Bengal bay has become again a dangerous place for my planes. My bombers do not dare anymore to take off without a strong escort.
My 2 armies are grouping at Rangoon and tomorrow should begin the offensve operation in Burma.
While a huge numbers of convoys are approaching Merak in Java, the invasion of Gili Gili has begun. The first parts of the South Sea Det. have took place on the beaches of gili gili. Despite a strong naval bombarment they found a stiff resistance. The yankees brought in many costal guns and 4 units are defending the base! Will be a bloody gamble i guess. At the same time my carrier group escorting the invasion fleet, located a 4 ships convoy moving northeast towards the small atolls north east of gili gili. For sure this was a plan of the allies for building up a defensive perimeter larger that gili gili. bad weather prenvented my carrier planes to launch a strike. Tomorrow the forecast says it's gonna rain....they will be probably escape[:(]
I'm gonna wait for my 2 infantry units to disembark before launching an attack.

RE: Gili Gili Invaded!

Post by Gen.Hoepner »

I've landed 4 units at Gili gili; suppressed his infantry there with 2 days of naval bombarments and now i'm ready to attack his fortifications. If, as i believe, tomorrow gili gili will be in my hands , a Base force is already at sea at 2 days from this base. At Truk the base force for Lae is being unloading and in one more week it should be in position. Then resupply PM will be damned hard for him. this will force him to commit his Cvs to open a way for his ships and with another CVE arriving tomorrow, my carrier assets will reach the numer of 650 a/c!
My KB1 will remain one more week in the waters between Singapore and Java: do not want any surprise here! Then it will sail towards the Bismark isles, where one more BB division will arrive from Singapore. My next objective for April is to consolitade my positions in the south pacific and raid through his communication lines with my 2 KBs.
In burma things are getting worse. more than 30 units are now assembled around Mandalay. i do not think that 4 divisions will be enough to break the level 9 forts waiting for me up there. the allied bombers each day are getting more dangerous, especially during night time. Cannot do much more about that. My zeros need a rest:it's been 3 months now that they're serving in the front lines and their numbers are getting lower and lower....

RE: night bombing

Post by Gen.Hoepner »

My high exp. Nells and Betties tried to attack PM by night, but did not even score a hit and took 5 ops losses[:(][:(]. I have to ask a question: What is best to fight vs. Night attack?
In Burma my armies , covered by the bombers based at Rangoon keep on andvancing towards Mandalay.I'm quite sure he's going to bomb my guys soi'm already giving a little RLCAP over them.
In Chima everthing is moving slowly: that's what happens when you run out of supply in the middle of an offensive operation[:@]
No sign of allied CVs in the south Pac. Here my defensive perimeter is growing up in a very efficint shape. Tomorrow Tarawa will arrive at Level 4 AFs, so a betty daitai is ready to be transfered here and to menace his routes passing near Canton island. Now if he wants to take on of the Gilberts he must face 200 planes at Tarawa , with level 2 forts(growing) and 210 assault points. At Kwajalein(sp?) there is one zero and one betty daitai and if needed more than 100 LRbombers can be transfered fast from Truk and Rabaul.
Lunga is a bit in late. Level 2 Af and level 2 forts, but it has 100 engeneers so i hope to speed up a bit this process.
My BBs are ready at Singapore to start the reduction of Batavia, while my troops are massing at Merak.
In the next 2 weeks i will provide some more troops to the Marshalls and to the Bismarks.

Thanks for the suggest Alikchi, but now we've got a BIG BIG problem:-(
My opponent have just told me that there's a BUG or something that prevents him from retreating his units in BURMA. He's asking me for a cease-fire in that Theatre in order to let his units retreat.
He said that when he saw my MSWs sweeping the mines out of Rangoon he understood that i was going to invade Rangoon and tried several times to order his units at Reaghen and Mouleim to go back and retreat to a safer line, but he was not able to do that, so now his 100,000 men army is f***ed. I'm sure i'm not having this problem, cause i moved back many units in these weeks from the Reaghen front for logistical reasons. Now, in one hand, i'd be glad not to abuse a hole in the game for my advantage and not to be unfair, but in the other hand i've committed 21 units in this CODE 1 adventure( the capture of Rangoon and the creation of this big pocket) that could have been used against Java 3 weeks ago...and we all know that for Japan 3 weeks is a Damned IMPORTANT time....
If i let his units retreat in order, i will lose all the advantage gained and will have to face a 150000 fortified men at Mandalay( so to say i will need a 5 division army to crack Mandalay...divisions that will not be used for Java or whatever). But i do want to play fairly and honestly and do not want to be gamey.........:(
any advice guys? what shall i do? Have u ever experienced this bug?

Thanks[:(]

Retreating troops should be directed to a friendly city to accept orders. I have allready problems while trying to set an open land hex with troops engaged by enemy units but setting the target hex as a city and then changing orders once my units move one hex works fine.

Thanks AmiralLaurent, we finally found it out. Unfortunately we made a gentlemen agreement that let him retreat from his positions where he was stuck bcause of that. this screw up my plans in Burma and made me lose nearly one months of operations. Now he holds Mandalay with 170,000 troops and level 9 forts and i've already put aside any dream of winning a decisive battle in burma.
If only i could figure it out earlier now i'll be the Dominus of Burma and more 100,000 allied troops will be in my bag, while nowdays i'm getting pounded at Rangoon by his level bombers and my troops are struggling with Malaria trying to reach Mandalay fortress[:(]

Hmmmm I hate to say it but I think you just got lucky !!!

India is a quagmire for the Japanese.

Unless you take it quickly you are committing a large proportion of your available ground forces to a place where the allies can trade space for time.

You would find yourself with most of you availabe infantry and armour stuck fighting there rather than securing resource or picket lines in SOPAC/ DEI.

The RN has been bloodied but it looks like the US CV force is intact. I think India unless you are confident you could have won before September / October 42 would have been a step to far...
