Bad size map and deploy

SPWaW is a tactical squad-level World War II game on single platoon or up to an entire battalion through Europe and the Pacific (1939 to 1945).

Bad size map and deploy

Post by gillo70 »

Hi all, i'm a veteran of old Steel Panthers and SP 3 but new to SP WAW.
I installed the game and the 8.3 patch. I have a couple of problems and i'd like to ask if something similar happend to you. (i tried both with Win 98SE and Win 2k)

First. Starting WW II Campaign i got only small maps (30x60), often there are only blue flags (in one corner of the map) and enemy troops are deployed near mine or i can deploy troops all over the entire map (even in defend mission). It seems that the map created is really smaller than needed and the game put the troops and objectives using the little space available.

Second. When buying the core army, sometimes some troops became red and unbuyable. But normal units, as halftracks, 75mm how, AT rifle, MG, trucks. In this case if i restart the game and try to buy again maybe it goes ok but maybe i get different simple units unbuyable. Gliders and transport planes sometimes appears and sometimes not (buyng core army). It seems strange to me.

Any idea about these problems?
Thanks for your help!

Hi Gio,

The reason for you not being able to buy certain units (red) is that you have 'historical availability' switched on in your preferences. Switch this off and you should be able to buy all that you want.

Sorry, but I can't help you on the other problem.

Cheers!

Thanks Danny, but the problem of the units appears to be related to "true troop cost/rarity" even if it involves units that must be available such as German Opel Blitz or halftrack.

About the map size, i think it was a problem of bad installing. After the last uninstall and reinstall the map size seems to be correct.

Thanks again :)

Hi Gillo....I hope you understood Danny Boy,he is correct..When buying units initially,(especially in campaign mode),you want to have troop rarity turned OFF in your options..This is what Danny Boy is referring to.(True troop cost/rarity)..
If not,you can find yourself unable to purchase evern basic units like infantry squads!!
After you make your purchases, save the set-up and then re-start,with the "rarity" option turned on for future battles in the campaign..

Thanks Bob,

When I post on the site I'm usually in the office (without a copy of SPWAW to hand). And as the years pass by, it gets harder for me to remember the names of my children, my wife, where I live....The correct option names in 'Preferences'[:D]

BTW, surely there is no real place called 'Dismal Seepage, Indiana'? I know that there are some strange place names the world over....but Dismal Seepage...sounds like something you need to get checked out at a private clinic!

Cheers!

Hi Danny Boy.

I'm originally from Indiana and I've been to Gnaw Bone and Bean Blossom (I have a T-shirt from there), Indiana, but I never heard of Dismal Seepage, but I wouldn't put it past some of the towns in the sticks of Southern Indiana to have a name like that (I grew up in Northern Indiana).[;)]

You guys crack me up!

Tyrone, Gnaw Bone ....I bet Governor Mitch Daniels doesn't live there...or in Dismal Seepage!

Mind you, could be worse, Arch could live in 'Dildo' Newfoundland, 'Shafter' California, or 'Sh-itlingthorpe' (auto delete won't let me post that name without changing it slightly!) Yorkshire, England!

Cheers!

Nah, he lives in big palatial digs befitting a dude of his rank in Indianapolis.

Speaking of dumb Indiana things--do you know what a Hoosier is? Me neither.

[X(] Sheesh. I guess it's just a matter of perspective, Danny Boy.

Tyrone, as far as I was aware, I thought a Hoosier was someone who made stockings and tights (pantyhose)!

I think that's a hosier, not a hoosier, Danny. Here's a link for an attempted definition of hoosier:

Tyrone, There's a Clint Eastwood movie in which he rescues Sondra Locke and her mum(?) from supposed Commancheros...oh for goodness sake...it was The Outlaw Josie Wales!

Anyway, for all of you that know your Clint, Sondra Locke and her mum(?) are proud of being Hoosiers!
(I was aware of the hosier/pantyhose thing....it's just hard to make jokes work that well when you're typing!)[:D]

Cheers!
