Game Idea "Car Wars" conversion

Post by wodin »

Ive just gone to the Website of an upcoming game "Auto Assault".

Looks like a PC version of Car Wars. Its is also a MMOG. That means I for one will not buy it. I just havent the time nor the inclination to subscribe to any game whatsoever. It does mention solo play on the website but I might be reading it wrong.

Anyway back to the game idea.

I'd love to see a conversion of Car Wars. Topdown 2d turn based car mayhem would be fantastic also through in some roleplay and build your own cars etc etc. I havent seen Car Wars in a long time and I believe it isnt the same as it was when I owend it in the early/mid eighties. Still what a game. I believ Matrix would be a good company to produce the game aswell.

Wasn't Auto Duel, by Origin, based on this? I loved that game. I still have the little toolkit that was in the box.

You didn't play Road War? Awww man it was a tactical game of buses, 18 wheelers, all kinds of different cars and your lil men had different kinds of weapons to shoot at each other with, I think buses could hold like 24 guys and were pretty powerful. But, once you figured out to shoot the "tires" out from under the vehicles first the game became pretty easy. heh Cept those 18 wheelers, they took some time to blow out all their tires.

A very good game though for it's time, right around when Road Warrior movies were popular.

SSI really churned out some great games in the 80's, I know I have at least 90% of them, even their baseball and football games. I also sent in my lil gamer card that came in every box that allowed you to "rate" their games, you don't see that anymore.

Auto duel was kind of a role playing game and an auto duel game, you traveled from city to city to enter into races and there was some plot line in the game as well, you had to fight to bad guys on your way to different races and then fight some more in the races themselves. Earning enough money to upgrade your vehicle and if you didn't do well in the races, you could always play black jack and make quite a bit of money the game was very forgiving playing blackjack, I wish I could win like that in real life. lol

Just reading that shows how much gameplay those older games had compared to now.

Yeah, Road War was great. It took me away from traditional wargames for most of a month over a summer vacation as I drove around what was left of the US, building up my road gang, looting the remnants of civilization and doing what I could to move the story along. When you found a repairable 18 wheeler, that was something to celebrate. [8D]

Originality is sometimes foreign to game marketers.

They get caught up in "whats best selling to males in the 12 to 18 demographic" sort of thinking

But considering "San Andreas Fault" and other titles like that have to figure that someone will think to do it sooner rather than later.
