Beta Test Team is now full..
Sorry to disappoint some of you that may have missed out. But the Beta Test team for UV is now CLOSED. Please dont email us asking to join as we will only say NO.
I am very dissappointed about the Beta test roster being full. I sent four email last year, one at the suggestion of Joel, volunteering for such a task.
Not only am I a fanatic on this subject, but I have been involved with software verification testing for over 15 years. I have been wargaming for over 25 years and did beta testing for Talonsoft for 2 years.
In spite of all my efforts to help, I did not even get a no thanks.

You didn't get asked for the same reasons they keep delaying the release date. They don't really have anything except a few "screen shots"

I have recevied nothing from you skydive as of late. If it was last year I guess you really needed to repond again when the call went out for playtesters. I notice that since you just joined again you have not been here for a while. I am sorry we missed you but we will be expanding the team for War in the Pacific if you are still interested.
Posts like Thomas are useless and offers nothing to the development of the game. I think it even more proof that some people need to just complain to be happy. I say this since Thomas joined the forum today and this was his one post. Doing things like that gives posts like this the low value they realyl deserve.
Uncommon Valor beta testing is going on strong now and I am sure some of the playtesters will post something as soon as they get a break.

Wasn't complaining it was MY observation. I am intitled to my own observation aren't I?
I'm not impressed easily and so far I'm not impressed. Sorry if that hurts your feelings.

The game is more than screenshots trust me. It has a great interface and a beautiful map. The detail level is deep, but by no means is it overwhelming. It has a strong set of defaults and the ability to put most functions on AI control which allow the player to control as much of the action as he desires.
But for the control freaks you can control just about everything from the altitude of your squadrons when they attack to when task forces should retire.
You have more options to control what action you want to see and the delays can be set per type of action instead of globally like in Pacific War. So if you want to watch just air combat, but don't want to see what the ground forces are up to you can. Of course when it's your orders turn you can view your combat reports to see how things are going in the jungle.
I personally have been impressed so far with what I've seen and I've only been testing it since this afternoon. What's most impressive is that it is playable as is with nothing that just outright crashes. It's a beta so it's got things that have to be tweaked and added, but by no means is it some screenshots with no functionality.
If you enjoyed following the action in Pacific War then you'll love this game for many reasons. It's alot easier on the eyes for sure. And the action is fun and detailed. You get a good feel for the battles being fought in the jungles, the air and the seas of the South Pacific. With this to build on and more theatre options being added for War in the Pacific I would think we have two games on our hands that will be played for many more years to come.
But that's just my opinion after 4 straight hours of playing.

I have to ask why you would say such a thing???Originally posted by Thomas:

But anway FYI this game has naval combat (no not getting the fluff out of your navel) ship to ship. It has air combat, air to surface, air to air. It has land combat. You have to keep your supplies coming up the line, you have to patrol the waters looking for the enemy task forces. Invade islands. Defend islands.
I am very impressed with the game.
Why apologize if you aren't sorry?Originally posted by Thomas:

As for your not being "intitled to your own observation"....why you are even entitled to spell it however you wish! But when you are both stupid and rude, you do deserve a response in the contrary.
I've been lurking here a long time...waiting for this to come out too. But you have treated Mr. Heath unfairly. He has be exampliary in his conduct and forth right in all of responses that I've been reading for some time.
My hats off to you. Looking forward to this release, Mr Heath.
Worr, out
Needless to say I am disappointed that I wasn't invited to be a beta tester (gotta work on that resume) but I am very heartened by what I am seeing here !
In fact, I have a standing rain-check on my birthday present until UV comes out
(and my b-day has already passed by)
p.s. Is that you Bernie ? Have I told ya how much I liked and re-read your write-up in BTR ?

Despite observations to the contrary UV is a real game that really plays. My wife hogged my computer last night so I was not able to see much of the game (I am a playtester) but what I saw looks robust. I particularly like that the game will have an editor to make scenarios. Someone once posted that he was sick of another Pac theater game as he had played it too long. With the editor I can't see every getting bored with this game. The playtesters have been asked to post here. I certainly will read here to see what things would be of interest to the UV community and key in on them during testing. That is not to say that posts would certainly be acted upon but it does help to make sure that those who will buy the game get their money's worth.
Never take counsel of your fears.

yum, editor you say!?
Sorry to hijack this thread but what can the player do with it?
I expect that if you want, it will you give the Kaga and all those other "Midway" carriers with some mouseclicks.
But can you also create new units? Let the game continue to 1945? Change the amounts of reinforcments, change the ownerships of bases etc etc

I'll be watching, I might be interested in testing... question in my mind is what UV and WISP will require as Min system requirments... My present PC is old now.. P-II 233mhz 8MB 3D Video AGP, boosted System Sdram to 160Mb... Question in my mind is if UV and WITP Will demand more fancy processsors ;--)Originally posted by David Heath:

Guy... screenshots are what might be posted to show how a games going to be like, but to say they only have screens is absurd, theirs plenty going on unseen in the development, also let me tell you, delaying release to get something as close as perfect working is FAR better then releasing something which isn't then any good...ANYONE up for a game of PATRIOT hummm? Originally posted by Thomas:

And then theres a company...Vibes who runs an online game Mankind which has bugs and every "patch" undoes past fixs or adds NEW bugs... so pardon me if I'd rather they delay it a bit to get it working right then rush it out and it be another "Patriot" Bah

I have been here since April of 2000 and know they have been working hard on these titles. They are a small programming staff that are dedicated to these games. They do not have million dollar budgets to hire people to build huge webs sites and babysit them all day. Since I assume you are stating "screen shots" from their web site.
Matrix has done some great things for wargamers and they have my respect for that. If they would have just stopped doing things after SPAWW they did more then 95% of the other companies out there.
No need to be rude to them because they did not send you a day to day update on the progess of the game.
